The Oakland Raiders are currently scheduling elementary schools, recreation centers, and other non-profit organizations for 2014 Gatorade Junior Training Camps FREE youth football clinics facilitated by The Oakland Raiders and geared towards boys and girls ages 7-12. A Junior Training Camp features the educational and recreational benefits of football presented in a safe and fun environment. The camp s curriculum was developed so that any student can participate regardless of age, gender, ability, or experience. A Junior Training Camp session is structured to a 60 minute clinic. The one-day clinics are scheduled for a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in April through December, and usually begin at 10:00 am. Only 200 kids are permitted to attend a clinic, and there must be a minimum of 75 participants. Before registering, please review the following information carefully. Junior Training Camp requirements for each organization are minimal, but very important. The success of your Junior Training Camp depends entirely on your own organization and teacher/volunteer interaction with the participating students. It is the intent of The Oakland Raiders to make this event a fun, safe, and educational day for the students, volunteers, and instructors. Volunteers: Each organization s contact person is responsible for arranging at least five (5) adult volunteers to assist with the event execution each volunteer will be assigned to one of five drill stations. Volunteers do not need to be athletically inclined to conduct the assigned stations. Junior Training Camp staff will be on hand to instruct and provide assistance. Unfortunately, the Junior Training Camp staff will have to cancel any session that does not have at least five (5) volunteers present. Volunteers must meet with the Junior Training Camp coordinator 15 minutes before the start of the clinic. Grass or Turf Playing Field: A grass or turf playing field approximately 40 x 40 yards must be available with enough space to accommodate four to six football drill stations. No Junior Training Camp may be performed on hard-top surfaces (cement, asphalt, etc.).
Liability Waiver Form: Before participating in the camp, each child must turn in a completed Liability Release Form. No exceptions will be made. Junior Training Camp staff will collect all of the waiver forms at the beginning of the camp. The waiver form can be found on the last page of this packet. First Aid: Each organization must provide an athletic trainer, school nurse, or someone who is CPR and first aid certified at the event. Junior Training Camp Curriculum: Junior Training Camp curriculum is very simple and emphasizes fun. Warm-ups will take 5-10 minutes. There will be four to six stations, which will be conducted by Junior Training Camp staff, volunteers, or classroom teachers. One (1) station will be assigned to each volunteer or teacher. The motivational talk, lasting 5-10 minutes, will take place on or near the actual Junior Training Camp site before and after the program. The students will be divided into 4 to 6 groups. Each group will be escorted to their predetermined station by their adult volunteer. Each volunteer will demonstrate the drill as soon as all of the students have reached the station. Drills will run simultaneously until the whistle blows. At the whistle, the volunteer will instruct their group to return the football to its original position, and instruct the kids to orderly and slowly switch to the next drill. The volunteer will stay at the same station as the kids rotate to the next station. After the final rotation, the students will reconvene at the center of the field for closing remarks and a group picture. Once everyone has rehydrated with a cup of Gatorade, Junior Training Camp is concluded. Important Notes: This program does not involve regular appearances by Oakland Raiders players or coaches. Scheduling for Junior Training Camps is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Each organization may apply once per year, and must be located no further than 50 miles away from The Oakland Raiders Alameda facility. If your Camp is cancelled due to inclement weather, a school conflict not known at the time of scheduling, or an Oakland Raiders staffing conflict, the Raiders will make every effort to reschedule your Camp for a later date.
