About the Economy Cyprus operates under an open, free-market economy. Despite the unprecedented 2013 bail-in, the Cypriot economy managed to bounce back extraordinarily fast proving its resilience and solid foundations. 2015 found Cyprus with a positive GDP growth rate of 1.5% confirming its adjustability and its commitment to progress. The island is constantly evolving in order to attract foreign investments and numerous new projects are under development such as marinas, casino resorts, golf courses and infrastructure improvements. 03

Main Economic Sectors More than 75% of the island s GDP is attributed to services of both financial and non-financial nature, mostly provided by the private sector. Financial services include fiduciary, administrative, accounting, banking, investment and corporate all of which contribute to about 25% of the island s GDP. Non-financial services comprise mainly of tourism, health care, the oil and gas industry and maritime. Tourism has always been Cyprus s priority not only during the summer season but throughout the year. Establishing Cyprus as a health care destination is one of the government s goals with private hospitals competing for excellence. The oil and gas industry, although in its infancy, is already attracting major international investors and is expected to significantly contribute to the island s revenue. Cyprus is a fully-fledged shipping center, renowned for its high safety standards and quality. The Cyprus Registry is the 3 rd largest in the EU and the 10 th largest globally. 04

Why Invest in Real Estate The Cyprus government is offering considerable incentives to investors: Properties are currently available at competitive prices and their value is expected to substantially rise in the future. First time buyers of new properties enjoy reduced VAT of 5% on their purchase instead of 19%. No transfer/registrations fees apply for new properties when VAT is charged. Citizenship by Investment program where buyers are eligible for Cyprus citizenship which lifts travelling restrictions, offers residence and employment opportunities, contributes in effective tax planning and leads to the acquisition of Cyprus/EU passport. Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) where buyers are eligible for PRP which relaxes visa requirements for most European countries and offers residence opportunities. 06

Citizenship by Investment Program Legislation changes now allow any foreign investor to become a Cypriot citizen and obtain a Cyprus/EU passport through naturalization if certain criteria and conditions are met. Main financial criteria: A. A total investment of at least 2,0m in real estate, land development or infrastructure projects, participation in local companies, Government Bonds of max. 500,000 and the purchase of a permanent residence of minimum price or 500,000 (excl. VAT), hence the total investment is set at 2,5million Euros OR B. The amount is reduced to 2.0m if the investor opts for the whole amount to be invested in the purchase of real estate with at least one property of minimum 500,000 (excl. VAT) as a permanent residency which must be kept for life. Conditions: o Clean criminal record: a Certificate of clean criminal record from the country of origin and the country of residence (if it differs). o Residence in Cyprus: in all cases the applicant must hold a permanent, privately-owned residence in Cyprus, the purchased price of which must be at least 500,000 plus V.A.T. o To maintain the citizenship, investors must always keep in their possession a real estate property of minimum value 500,000 which will be declared as their permanent residence. Additionally: A Permanent Residency Permit will be issued prior to Naturalization which is expected to be issued within six months as from the date of the application. Parents of the investor can obtain the Cyprus Citizenship with the purchase of an additional permanent residence of minimum value of 500,000 (excl. VAT). 07

Permanent Residence Permit Any third country national can be granted Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) if certain criteria are met. Main criteria: o o o Purchase of privately owned residence with value amounting to no less than 300,000 plus V.A.T Proof of a secure annual income of at least 30,000 that is exclusively derived from abroad. This annual income should increase by 5,000 for every dependent person the investor has. Benefits: o PRP is granted indefinitely, but the Cyprus authorities might perform periodical checks for the purpose of assuring the residence remains under the ownership of the third country resident. o Holders of PRP may enter and leave the country whenever required without any restrictions. o A PRP would make a visa application to other EU countries less complex and much quicker. General information: o Both Citizenship by Investment and PRP are expedited procedures. o Prominent auditors and lawyers are thoroughly prepared to assist with more information on the subject and the necessary documentation. 08
