Nature and Duration of the Course: Five-year integrated dual course B.Sc.+M.Sc. (Actuarial Science) after Intermediate/H.S.C. (10+2) is a full time course of five years (ten semesters) duration which starts in the second half of July month. Intake for the course: 40 seats (reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates as per the university rules). Eligibility: A candidate who has passed Intermediate/H.S.C. (10+2) from any stream (Science/Commerce/Arts) with Mathematics as one of the subject and has obtained at least 50% marks in Mathematics is eligible to get admission through entrance examination. Entrance test structure: The entrance test paper will be based on 12 th standard Mathematics Syllabus. Paper will be of 100 marks comprising 50 multiple choice objective questions. Note: If number of applicants is large, Entrance test will be conducted otherwise candidates will be admitted based on their marks obtained in Intermediate/H. S. C. (10+2). Course Duration: Five years (10 Semesters): B.Sc. 3 Years + M.Sc. 2 Years. Award of Degree: B.Sc. (Actuarial Science) degree will be awarded after successful completion of three years and after successful completion of next two years M.Sc. (Actuarial Science) degree will be awarded. Practitioners of Actuarial Science are known as actuaries. They forecast the cost of future risks and make financial decisions by developing models to evaluate the current financial implications of future uncertainties. The training of Actuaries heavily involves undergraduate coursework in mathematics and statistics. It also provides a solid grounding in business and economics. About the Five-year integrated dual course B.Sc.+M.Sc. (Actuarial Science) From the academic year 2014-2015, the Department of Statistics at the Kumaun University is offering a three year B.Sc. (Actuarial Science) course after 12 th standard which could be followed by an additional two years postgraduate training leading to M.Sc. (Actuarial Science). A candidate who has passed Intermediate/H.S.C. (10+2) from any stream (Science/Commerce/Arts) with Mathematics as one of the subjects and having more than 50% marks in Mathematics is eligible to get admission through an entrance examination. This program will prepare students to write professional examinations of North American actuarial bodies such as Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). They can start writing these examinations towards the end of the second year of the B.Sc. degree program. Employment Opportunities Actuaries are business professional who assess and quantify financial risk. Most actuarial graduates generally find employment opportunities in fields of insurance, employee benefits, pension plans, management consulting, banking and finance. (Actuarial Science): Statistical and mathematical Methods: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability Distributions, Probability Theory, Survival Models, Statistical Inference, Descriptive Statistics, Regression Analysis, Sampling techniques. Actuarial Science: Life Contingencies, Life Insurance, Health and care Insurance, General Insurance, Advance Life Insurance, Advance General Insurance, Advance Health and Care Insurance, Actuarial Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management. Economics, Finance and Accounting: Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Finance and Financial Reporting, Money, Banking and Public Finance, Finance and Investment, Financial Economics. Computational Methods and Practical: Computer Programming in C++, Programming in R and practical based on Statistical Software Packages like MATLAB, MINITAB, SPSS, SYSTAT and MS-Excel.
