Daily Equities Market update Profit taking takes Equities market down by -0.87% Brent price declines to $79.99pb NASD OTC breaks uptrend, shed -0.96% October 17, 2018

Daily Market Summary: The Market breadth closed negative (0.50x) Intense sell-off pressure seen in the market today broke the gains in big name counters recorded previously as investors begin to consider portfolio rebalancing in reaction to Q3 2018 financials. This, however, suppressed the market in the water to close at -0.87% from 0.95% upon losses in all the Premium board counters topped by DANGCEM (-2.44%), FBNH (-1.62%) and UBA(- 1.22%). Coming on the performance, Year-todate slipped further in dip to -15.44% from - 14.44% as equity market capitalization lost 92.12% or N103.98bn of the gain recorded yesterday (N112.88billion) to end at N11.842trillion from N11.946trillion. Review of Sectoral Performance All sectors trended down saved insurance sector which was immune from the bears to close at 1.48% consequent upon gains in its 5 counters topped by SUNUASSUR (10.0%), CONTINSURE (9.63%) and AFRIPRUD(5.0%). On the negative sector, industrial sector index was the hardest hit as it plunged -1.59% to end at 1478.62 due to negative sentiments in CAP(- 6.21%) and DANGCEM(-2.44%), although CUTIX leaped above the bearish prey by 8.37%.

s Furthermore, Banking sector index dropped -0.19% to 414.67 as a result of losses in its bellwether counters topped by FIDELITYBK (-4.74%), DIAMONDBNK (-1.64%) and FBNH (- 1.62%). Similarly, Oil and gas and consumer goods indexes shed -0.18% and -0.14% respectively. Investors Sentiment Investors sentiment remained under the bear territory as its dragged 22 counters in red as against 11 counters rescued in green. Thus, the market breadth declined further to 0.50x from 0.69x.
