Signature Indexed Universal Life A flexible premium universal life insurance policy with both fixed and indexed interest crediting options. An Indexed Universal Life Insurance Policy Issued By American National Insurance Company

Financial peace of mind... Life Insurance used to only be a way to purchase a death benefit to protect your family. While family protection remains the number one use of Indexed Universal Life, it may also provide other significant benefits that can be used during the lifetime of the insured and their family. Signature Indexed Universal Life, like its name, can provide living benefits for any direction life takes you as well as provide a death benefit to provide for surviving family members. Why Permanent Life Insurance? Simply put, Because you love them. Because you do not want your family worrying about money in the weeks and months after you are gone. Because you do not want your family to lose the family home within months of losing you due to lack of funds. Because you want your family to continue their lifestyle without interruption. Because you want your surviving spouse to have income for retirement. Because, if you go early, you want to provide care for any surviving parent. Because you want to provide for your children. Because you want to preserve your business after you are gone. Because you want to take advantage of compounding interest on a tax-deferred basis. Because you want help fund your children or grandchildren s education. Because you love them. 2

What is an Indexed Universal Life Policy? An Indexed Universal Life Policy (IUL) is a type of permanent life insurance policy that provides a death benefit as well as the ability to build Accumulation Value. This type of policy has the potential to earn interest based upon the performance of a index which makes this an Indexed Universal Life Insurance Policy. However, you are never invested directly in the market and your policy will never be credited a negative interest rate. This allows you to take advantage of the potential increases in the index while maintaining a level of protection in the event that the index drops below 0%. 1 With an IUL policy, you have the flexibility to adjust the amount of premiums you contribute. You may even have the potential to stop contributing premiums if you accumulate enough to cover the cost to keep the policy active. If your Accumulation Value is enough, you may be able to access some of your accumulation later in life through policy loans. 2 1 You will never be credited a negative interest rate related to a change in the index, however, due to monthly deductions to your policy, your Accumulation Value may decrease. 2 Policy Loans are subject to interest charges and can reduce the death benefit paid to beneficiaries. Outstanding policy loans may affect the policy s death benefit, the value of the policy and possibly the length of time the policy remains in force. 1 Loans are subject to interest charges and can reduce the death benefit paid to beneficiaries. Outstanding loans may affect the policy s death benefit, the value of the policy and possibly the length of time the policy remains in force. 3

Why are People Turning to Indexed Universal Life? In a fluctuating economic environment, individuals have been looking for a place to place their premium dollars where they can obtain protection for their family and provide a safety net for their future. One of the appealing features of the Signature Indexed Universal Life is the fact that your premium dollars are not directly placed in any equity or index, so you do not participate in the potential decreases during negative economic years. Policy Features: Premium Payments With Signature Indexed Universal Life, you are able to choose the amount and frequency of your premiums. As Accumulation Value builds you may be able to skip a premium payment since the cost of insurance for every period is debited from your Accumulation Value. Cumulative Interest Rate Guarantee Signature Indexed Universal Life provides a Cumulative Interest Rate Guarantee of 2.5% at full surrender or the insured s death. At full surrender or the insured s death, the accumulation value will not be less than if all net premiums had been allocated to the Fixed Account with 2.5% interest credited throughout the life of the contract. Surrender Charges If you choose to cancel your policy in the first ten years, surrender charges apply. Flexibility Features After your policy accumulates value, you are able to take a policy loan 1 from the built up value and choose between a fixed or a variable interest rate on the policy loan amount. You also have the ability to switch between variable and fixed rates up to once per year up to five times for the life of the policy. Outstanding policy loans may impact the value of the death benefit, the value of the policy and possibly of the length of time the policy is in force. You will receive an annual statement that will reflect the Accumulation Value of your policy and the current death benefit amount. 1 Policy Loans are subject to interest charges and can reduce the death benefit paid to beneficiaries. Outstanding policy loans may affect the policy s death benefit, the value of the policy and possibly the length of time the policy remains in force. 4

Life Benefits As important as the accumulation features are, Signature Indexed Universal Life is first and foremost life insurance. And life insurance, of course, provides the death benefit protection that might be vital to the well-being of loved ones. Signature Indexed Universal Life lets you select from three different choices for paying death benefits to their beneficiary. Option A - Level Death Benefit Under Option A, the death benefit equals the greater of: 1. The specified amount as shown on the policy form, or 2. The minimum death benefit calculated under the standard Guideline Premium Test Option B - Increasing Death Benefit This option calls for a death benefit that equals the greater of: 1. The specified amount plus the Accumulation Value, or 2. The minimum death benefit calculated under the standard Guideline Premium Test Option C - Death Benefit With Return Of Premium Under the final option, the death benefit equals the greater of: 1. The specified amount plus all premiums paid (including those paid for riders) less any partial surrenders made, or 2. The minimum death benefit calculated under the standard Guideline Premium Test Death Benefit Change Restrictions: Option A Option B: Can be requested any time prior to the anniversary of the Issue Date following the Insured s attained age of 85. Option B Option A: Can be requested after the Issue Date. Option C: May only be selected at Policy Issue. Changing to Option C is not permitted. Option C Option A: Can be requested after the Issue Date. Option C Option B: Not permitted at any time. 5

The Flexibility to Do More While Living Signature Indexed Universal Life also has the potential to provide considerable benefits, through policy loans that can be used throughout your lifetime. The Policy s Surrender Value may be borrowed against at a competitive rate. Signature Indexed Universal Life offers both Fixed and Variable Loan Options. The Ability To Choose At times, the economic environment may be more conducive to one loan option than the other. The policy includes the option to switch between the Fixed and Variable Loan options once a policy year with a maximum of five switches allowed over the lifetime of the policy. If multiple loans are taken on a policy, all loans must use the same loan option. Fixed Loan Option When a Fixed Loan is chosen, the fixed interest rate charged is 6% in arrears. A Loan Collateral Account will be established as security for the loan at the same time. The Loan Collateral Account value will be equal to the amount of the loan, and collateral is drawn from the Accounts and/or Strategies that make up the Accumulation Value in your policy. The funds we transfer to the Loan Collateral Account will earn 6% interest. Variable Loan Option When a Variable Loan is chosen, the actual interest rate charged is adjustable on a policy year basis. The rate is determined initially when the loan is granted and can be adjusted annually up to the maximum allowed by law (Will vary by state). No Loan Collateral Account is established for a Variable Loan. Loan Consequences Policy Loans are subject to interest charges and can reduce the death benefit paid to beneficiaries. While loans need not be repaid, outstanding loans may affect the policy s death benefit, the value of the policy and possibly the length of time the policy remains in force. 6

Interest Crediting Methods You will be able to choose how your policy accumulates earned interest and therefore Accumulation Value. You have the option to use any combination of the options below; you can allocate your premium to one of the Indexed Interest Crediting Strategies for the opportunity for higher potential interest earnings or increase your participation in the Fixed Account. Indexed Interest Crediting Strategies With an indexed interest crediting strategy, an index is simply used as a way to measure the interest that can be credited to your strategy. Since you are never directly in the market, you may not realize all of the increase as you will not participate in any dividends but only in the movement of the index itself. 7

Point-to-Point With Cap This strategy compares the value of the S&P 500 Index at the beginning of the one year Segment Term to the value at the end of the one year period and measures the percentage of increase or decrease. The Participation Rate for this strategy is 100%. If there is an increase in the value of the index, the value in this strategy will be credited interest using the percentage of increase of the index, up to the Cap set at the beginning of the Segment Term. If there is no change or a decrease in the value of the index, the value in this strategy will be protected by the 0% floor and will receive no interest earnings. Hypothetical Example 1 Cap rate: 14% If the index value increased 16% but there is a 14% cap, the strategy will be credited 14%. Index Increase: 16% Hypothetical Example 2 Floor: 0% Index Decrease: -4% If the index value decreased -4% but there is a 0% floor, the strategy will be credited 0%. Policy Form Series: ULPTP14 The use of alternative assumptions in these examples could produce significantly different results. These hypothetical examples are intended solely for illustrative purposes and are not an indication of past or future performance of the Signature IUL product. The published S&P 500 Index does not reflect dividends paid on the stocks underlying the Index. 8

Point-to-Point With Cap And Higher Floor This strategy compares the value of the S&P 500 Index at the beginning of the one year Segment Term to the value at the end of the one year period and measures the percentage of increase or decrease. At the end of the year, if there is no change or a decrease in the value of the index, the value in this strategy will be credited interest earnings using the declared floor rate for that segment. The floor is declared at the beginning of the Segment Term. The Participation Rate for this strategy is 100%. If there is an increase in the value of the index, the value in this strategy will be credited interest using the percentage of increase of the index, up to the Cap set at the beginning of the Segment Term. Hypothetical Example 1 Cap rate: 10% If the index value increased 16% but there is a 10% cap, the strategy will be credited 10%. Index Increase: 16% Floor: 1.5% 0% Hypothetical Example 2 Index Decrease: -4% If the index value decreased -4% but there is a 1.5% floor, the strategy will be credited 1.5%. Policy Form Series: ULPTP14 Point-to-Point With Specified Rate This strategy also compares the value of the S&P 500 Index at the beginning of the one year Segment Term to the value at the end of the one year Segment Term. A specified rate of interest is set at the beginning of the Segment Term. If the value of the index increases or remains the same, the value in the strategy will be credited interest using the specified interest rate. If the value of the index decreases, the value in the strategy will receive no interest earnings. Assume the Specified Rate is set at 7.0% for this Segment Term. Starting Index Ending Index Change in Interest Interest Value Index Credited Hypothetical Examples 1 1000 1100 Increase 7.0% 2 1200 1200 No Change 7.0% 3 1300 1170 Decrease 0% Policy Form Series: ULSR14 9

Point-to-Point Uncapped with Interest Rate Spread This strategy compares the value of the S&P 500 Index at the beginning of the one year Segment Term to the value at the end of the one year Segment Term and measures the percentage of increase or decrease. With this strategy, an interest rate spread 1 is applied to your strategy in exchange for the benefit of not having a cap on potential interest. There is a 0% floor in case of a decline in the index but no cap will be put on your potential interest earnings. The interest rate spread will reduce the amount of index interest credited to your strategy by the percentage specified at the beginning of the one year Segment Term. Hypothetical Example 1 Total Index Increase: 26% Deduct the 5% interest rate spread 21% interest will be credited to the strategy If the index value increased 26% but there is a 5% interest rate spread on the strategy, the strategy will be credited 21%. Hypothetical Example 2 Floor: 0% Index Decrease: -4% If the index value decreased -4% but there is a 0% floor on the strategy, the strategy will be credited 0%. Policy Form Series: ULNC14 1) The maximum potential interest spread specified in the policy is 20%. The use of alternative assumptions in these examples could produce significantly different results. These hypothetical examples are intended solely for illustrative purposes and are not an indication of past or future performance of the Signature IUL product. The published S&P 500 Index does not reflect dividends paid on the stocks underlying the Index. 10

Fixed Account: The fixed account will earn interest at a rate periodically determined by the company. Interest is calculated using a compound method assuming a 365 day year. The rate credited to the fixed account will never be less than the minimum guaranteed interest rate for the policy. Interest is credited at an annual effective interest rate. Any surrenders will reduce the amount of interest credited to your policy. There is no minimum allocation associated with the Fixed Account. You may allocate any percentage of the Sweep Account Transfer amount to the Fixed Account. However, the combined total percentages allocated to the Fixed Account and Indexed Strategies cannot exceed 100%. 11

Customize Your Coverage What other needs do you hope to fulfill? In order to custom design your coverage under the Signature Indexed Universal Life Policy, we offer a variety of optional Riders for this policy. Not all Riders are available in all states, and there is an additional cost for the Riders except where noted. Forms may vary by state. ANICO Signature Term Rider This rider allows you to purchase an amount of additional term insurance (10, 15 or 20) on yourself, a family member or an associate so long as the policy owner has an insurable interest. (Policy Form Series ULLTR13) Disability Waiver of Minimum Premium Rider If the person insured by the policy should become totally disabled, this rider ensures no further premiums will be required as long as the disability continues. The insured person must provide proof of total disability, which must last for at least six consecutive months. The rider waives the greater of the minimum premium or the monthly deductions. (Policy Form Series ULDW91) Disability Waiver of Stipulated Premium Rider A similar rider waives a certain amount of the premium, as stipulated on the data page that accompanies the policy. These waived premiums are considered to be paid premiums and are credited to the insurance policy. This amount may not keep the policy active to policy maturity date. Again, the insured must provide proof of total disability that has continued for at least six consecutive months. (Policy Form Series PWSTP) Children s Term Rider Separate level term life insurance may be provided for each child age 15 days old through 18 years at policy issue. Each insured child may be covered up to the earlier of: The child s attained age of 25, or The policy anniversary following the insured s attained age of 65 (Policy Form Series ULCTR14) 12

Guaranteed Increase Option Rider This option allows the policy owner to purchase additional insurance covering the life of the insured person on future specified Option Dates. No proof of insurability is required if the coverage is purchased on one of these dates. (Policy Form Series ULGIO14) Overloan Protection Benefit Rider The Overloan Protection Rider can keep a policy with a large amount of debt from lapsing, limitations apply. This rider is automatically included. (Policy Form Series ULOPR14) Accelerated Benefit Riders Should you become terminally, chronically, or critically ill, an accelerated discounted death benefit may be available to you before you die, providing funds for you to use for medical or other unexpected expenses. There is no additional premium for this benefit. The benefit riders are subject to an administrative fee of up to $500 and an actuarial discount that will be assessed when the benefit is elected. (Policy Form Series ABR14-TM, ABR14-CH, ABR14-CT) For more detailed information, consult your Agent or refer to the American National Benefit and Rider Guide (Form 10695) 13

What s Next? How do you determine if Signature Indexed Universal Life Insurance can help meet future financial needs? There are many details to consider. Perhaps the best place to start is to meet with your agent to discuss your specific situation and needs. Your agent may provide an illustration demonstrating the death benefit and accumulation features of the Signature Indexed Universal Life Insurance policy. Together you can decide the best plan of action to help protect today s dreams and tomorrow s future. 14

Accelerated Benefit Rider Notice: Policy Form Series: ABR14-TM; ABR14-CH; ABR14-CT. Forms will vary by state and may not be available in all states. Have your agent refer to rider forms for a complete list of illnesses and definitions. Some states may limit the definition of terminal illness to conditions that are expected to result in death within 12 months. The riders are subject to an administrative fee of up to $500 and an actuarial discount that will be assessed when the benefit is elected. Outstanding Policy Loans will reduce the amount of the benefit payment. The accelerated death benefit is an unrestricted cash payment. The Chronic and Terminal rider are intended to receive favorable tax treatment under 101(g) of the IRS. Receipt of a benefit could be a taxable event. You should consult a tax advisor regarding the tax status of any benefit paid under these riders. Receipt of Accelerated Benefits may affect your eligibility for Medicaid, supplemental security income, or other governmental benefits or entitlements. Before accelerating any benefit you should consult an advisor to determine the impact on your eligibility. Accelerated Benefit Riders are not replacements for Long Term Care Insurance. This is a life insurance benefit that also gives you the option to accelerate some or all of the death benefit in the event that you meet the criteria for a qualifying event described in the policy. This policy or certificate does not provide long-term care insurance subject to California long-term care insurance law. The policy or certificate is not a California Partnership for Long-Term Care program policy. This policy or certificate is not a Medicare supplement policy. Accelerated benefit riders ( ABR ) and long-term care insurance ( LTCI ) provide different types of benefits. An ABR allows the insured to access a portion of the life insurance policy s death benefit while living and may be used for any purpose. LTCI provides reimbursement for necessary care received due to a prolonged illness or disability. Coverage may include reimbursement for the cost of a nursing home, assisted living, home health care, homemaker services, adult day care, hospice services or respite care for the primary caretaker. The benefits may be conditioned on certain requirements or meeting an elimination period or limited by type of service, the number of days or a maximum dollar limit. Benefits under some ABRs and all LTCI are conditioned upon the insured not being able to perform two or more of the activities of daily living or being cognitively impaired. California: See form 10741-CM for a more detailed comparison of benefits provided by an ABR and LTCI. 15
