World Investor basics World Investor is a module in Geneva that allocates profit and loss to investors. We use this to allocate income to investors and use our excel monthly schedules to check against the information produced by World Investor. It will calculate management fees and performance fees, but it is important to note, that it will not post an entry to Geneva for these items. These will need to be manually booked using an Accounting-Related journal entry. Getting started Open Geneva. In ribbon at top, select World Investor, then select Open Fund. The following screen will appear. Navigate to fund. Once fund is selected, the fund screen below will open:
Period processing Under Forms, select Period Information and the following screen will appear. Ensure that the period that you want to run World Investor for is entered. Under Process Period, select Period Processor (there is also a shortcut button, circled below).
Once selected the following screen will appear: Ensure that the proper period is selected and then select Run Income Query. This is the stage in which World Investor integrates with Geneva and pulls any income that has been posted to Geneva for the period selected. After running this step, you will then see that profit and loss has been allocated to the fund for that period (if you ran the Statement of Operations in Geneva for that period, it should match, excluding PIF and management fee).
This report can be accessed by going to Forms, then Profit and Loss Information or selecting shortcut below: Then run step Allocate (it is important to note that any capital activity (subs/reds/transfers) for the month needs to be booked prior to running Allocate, as this is the step where it allocates the Geneva income to the investors. See later for entering in capital activity. After running step Allocate, you will then need to charge the management fees. Go to Special Allocations and select Asset Based Fee Calculator. The following screen will appear. All the funds have been setup to calculate the management fee based on the fund s policy per their PPM. There should be no need to override the management fees. If the management fees are correct, then select Charge. After charging management fees to the investors, then run step Finalize Allocation. This step will then calculate the performance fee for each investor. Then run step Roll forward to Ready to Tax Allocate (this calculates the tax allocations for each investor no bearing on month-end NAV). Then run step Roll forward to Ready to Close. Once you have completed that step, it will ask you to Close Period. In order to do this, you must then define the next period (instructions above).
Adding Capital Activity Under Forms, select Investor Information (there is also a shortcut button, circled below). The following screen will then appear: All numerical codes represent individual investors. These codes correspond to the investors Contact ID# in Avatar. Take above investor #45504 as an example:
To add capital activity, highlight the investor code, and then select Edit. You will then open up their investor record. To the right, you can select from the following tabs: Subscriptions, Transfers or Redemptions. Entering Subscriptions: Select the subscriptions tab: To populate a subscription the following information needs to be entered: Sub-entity code: this is investor s code Fund: this is the fund s code Deal date: date of subscription Series Code: only relevant if it is a unitized fund Capital Account Code: you will be given an option to select an existing capital account (tax lot) or to create a new capital account. In the example above, we created a new capital account code, because this fund creates new tax lots any time an investor puts an additional subscription to the fund. This is not the case for all funds. User Amount: enter in the amount of the subscription After all this information is entered, at the bottom you will select Update. Entering Redemptions: Same process as above for Subscriptions. The only difference is that instead of entering User Amount, you also have the option to enter the percentage that they are redeeming under User Percent.
