The figure represents a decrease of 1,500 jobs over the month and a decrease of 13,900 jobs over the year. This is the 12th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Private sector employment was es mated at 1,654,300, an increase of 200 jobs over the month but a loss of 10,400 jobs over the year. This shows 11 consecu ve months with an over-the-year loss following 59 consecu ve months of over-the-year increases. This year the BLS has introduced a new sector: mining, logging and construc on. It is simply the combina on of the mining and logging sector and the construc on sector. Therefore, we will not include it when ranking sector movements over the month or over the year. Over the month the largest gain was seen in the educa on and health services sector which added 1,800 jobs, as health care and social assistance added 2,300 jobs. Trade, transporta on, and u li es gained 1,600 jobs with retail trade adding 1,900 jobs. Financial ac vi- es added 1,000 jobs while other services rose by 800 jobs, its fi h consecu ve monthly increase. Manufacturing added 400 jobs while informa on showed no change. The largest over-the-month loss occurred in construc on, which fell by 2,100 jobs. Construc on has lost jobs over the month for four consecu ve months. Government declined by 1,700 jobs, with state government losing 1,500 jobs. Leisure and hospitality dropped by 1,500 jobs, its first over-the-month loss for since 2010. Professional and business services fell by 1,300 jobs. Mining and logging lost 500 jobs, its 19 th consecu ve over-the-month loss. Over the year the largest gain was seen in the educa on and health services sector which added 8,700 jobs. The series has added jobs over the year every month since October 2006. The health care and social assistance subsector added 7,900 of those jobs. Other services increased by 1,100 jobs and has added jobs over the year every month since 2011. Construc on added 700 jobs over the year and has shown an over-the-year gain for nine straight months. Trade, transporta on, and u li es also added 700 jobs as retail trade increased by 4,600 jobs. Informa on added 600 jobs from last year. The largest over -the-year decline occurred in mining and logging which fell by 8,800 jobs. This is the 19 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Manufacturing fell by 6,100 jobs as durable goods manufacturing also lost 6,100 jobs. Manufacturing has lost jobs over the year for 17 consecu ve months. Professional and business services declined by 6,000 jobs, its 10 th straight loss. Government lost 3,500 jobs with state government losing 4,000 jobs. The financial ac vi es sector lost 1,200 jobs from last year and has lost jobs over the year for 16 consecu ve months. Leisure and hospitality reported a small loss of 100 jobs. The preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana was 6.3 percent, an increase from the June revised rate of 6.2 percent. The na onal unemployment rate for remained the same as the June rate of 4.9 percent. Total unemployment in the state for was 134,764. The state civilian labor force decreased to 2,153,063, with a decrease in total employment to 2,018,299. 3 State and Area Employment STATEWIDE Louisiana s total nonfarm not seasonally adjusted employment was es mated at 1,968,100 for. The es mate represents a loss of 12,100 jobs over the month and a loss of 9,900 jobs from 2015. The es mate shows 12 consecu ve months with an over-the-year loss. The total private employment figure was es mated at 1,656,600 in. Private sector employment showed an over-the-month decrease of 1,000 jobs and lost 7,100 jobs from 2015. This shows 12 consecu ve months with over-theyear losses a er 59 consecu ve months of gains. Over the month the largest increase was seen in the trade, transporta on, and u li es sector, which added 1,700 jobs, its first over-the-month increase since 2011. The retail trade subsector added 1,800 jobs. Financial ac vi es rose by 1,200 jobs, its largest monthly increase since October 2008. Educa on and health services added 1,100 jobs to reach its highest level of employment of 311,300. The health care and social assistance subsector increased by 2,700 jobs. Both the mining and logging sector and the other services sector showed a small 100 job increase. The largest decrease over the month occurred in the government sector, which fell by 11,100 jobs. Local government lost 9,400 jobs in the tradi onal summer break employment downturn. Leisure and hospitality fell by 2,100 jobs, as food services and drinking places lost 1,300 jobs. Construc on lost 1,500 jobs from June, and has now lost jobs over the month in six of the last eight months. The employment level of 142,000 is s ll the highest for in series history. Professional and business services also lost 1,500 jobs from June. Manufacturing lost 100 jobs while informa on showed no change. Educa on and health services showed the largest over-the-year sector increase by adding 9,700 jobs as the health care and social assistance subsector increased by 8,800 jobs. Trade, transporta on, and u li es added 1,800 jobs, with retail trade increasing by 5,100 jobs. The other services sector showed an increase of 1,100 jobs, and has added jobs over the year for 62 consecu ve months. Leisure and hospitality added 1,000 jobs over the year, as food services and drinking places rose by 900 jobs. Informa on increased by 600 jobs while construc on added 300 jobs, its ninth straight month with an over-the-year gain. The largest over-the-year loss was in mining and logging, which fell by 8,400 jobs, its 19th straight over-the-year loss. Manufacturing lost 6,200 jobs over the year, with durable goods manufacturing also losing 6,200 jobs. Manufacturing has seen 17 straight months of over-the-year losses. Professional and business services decreased by 6,000 jobs, as the employment services industry lost 3,500 jobs. Government lost 2,800 jobs, with state government falling by 3,100 jobs. Financial ac vi es showed 1,000 fewer jobs, its 16th straight loss over the year. ALEXANDRIA Total nonfarm employment for the Alexandria MSA was es mated at 63,900 for. This es mate shows a loss of 300 jobs over the month but a gain of 300 jobs over the year. The MSA has added jobs over the year in 35 of the last 36 months. BATON ROUGE Total nonfarm employment for the Baton Rouge MSA was es mated at 411,800 for. The es mate shows a loss of 2,700 jobs over the month but an increase of 9,400 jobs over the year. Baton Rouge has added jobs over the year every month since January 2011. Over the month government fell by 2,400 with local government losing 2,100 jobs. Construc on declined by 900 jobs while educa on and health services lost 500 jobs. Over the year, trade, transporta on, and u li es increased by 2,800 jobs, with retail trade gaining 2,200 jobs. Educa on and health services added 2,600 jobs, with the health care and social assistance subsector adding 2,100 jobs. Construc on rose by 1,900 jobs while professional and business services added 1,800.

4 HAMMOND The Hammond MSA total nonfarm employment was es mated at 43,500 for. This figure shows a loss of 200 jobs over the month but no change over the year. Service providing employment decreased by 200 jobs over the month. Goods producing employment fell by 300 jobs over the year. HOUMA Total nonfarm employment in the Houma MSA was es mated at 93,300 for. This shows no change over the month but a decline of 3,900 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 2,400 jobs over the year. Mining and logging lost 1,200 jobs over the year, its 18th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. LAFAYETTE Total nonfarm employment for the Lafaye e MSA was es mated at 205,900 for. This represents a loss of 1,600 jobs over the month and 7,300 jobs over the year. The MSA has lost jobs over the year for 18 consecu ve months. Over the month, professional and business services lost 900 jobs while government lost 500 jobs. Over the year mining and logging was down 3,300 jobs, its 19th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Manufacturing lost 3,200 jobs from last, its 21st straight month with an over-the-year decline. Professional and business services lost 2,000 jobs, its 17th consecu ve overthe-year loss. Financial ac vi es decreased by 500 jobs over the year for its 30th consecu ve over-the-year loss. LAKE CHARLES Total nonfarm employment for the Lake Charles MSA was es mated at 105,100 for. This shows a loss of 300 jobs over the month but a gain of 3,100 jobs over the year. It is the 61st consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase. Government lost 800 jobs over the month, en rely in local government. Construc on added 1,400 jobs over the year, while the manufacturing sector increased by 400 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es sector added 300 jobs over the year, with retail trade adding 500 jobs. MONROE Total nonfarm employment for the Monroe MSA was es mated at 79,100 for. This shows a loss of 300 jobs over the month but an increase of 900 jobs over the year. The MSA has added jobs over the year for 20 consecu ve months. Trade, transporta on, and u li es added 300 jobs over the month but lost 100 over the year. Educa on and health services added 400 jobs over the year while professional and business services lost 300 jobs. Both the manufacturing sector and the government sector lost 200 jobs over the year. NEW ORLEANS Total nonfarm employment for the New Orleans MSA was es mated at 573,900 for. Employment in the MSA dropped by 4,400 jobs over the month but added 2,900 jobs over the year. Over the month, government fell by 2,400 jobs, with local government losing 2,300 jobs. Leisure and hospitality lost 2,300 jobs over the month, while professional and business services lost 1,600 jobs. Over the year, educa on and health services added 2,700, with the healthcare and social assistance subsector adding 2,900 jobs. Leisure and hospitality gained 2,600 jobs, with food services and drinking places also rising by 2,600. Construc on lost 1,400 jobs from last, with the specialty trade contractors subsector losing 1,300 jobs. Mining and logging lost 800 jobs, its 18th straight over-the-year decline. SHREVEPORT Total nonfarm employment for the Shreveport MSA was es mated at 183,700 for. This shows a gain of 500 jobs over the month and 300 over the year.
