MedicAlert Foundation Canada 2016 Annual Report Message from the Chair of the Board of Directors, and the President and CEO 2016 was a tremendous year for MedicAlert, thank you for your ongoing support! As a registered Canadian charity, MedicAlert Foundation Canada has protected over one million Canadians in over 55 years. We are committed to delivering our charitable mission to put every Canadian in a position to benefit from high-quality health information at time of need. Here are just a few of the highlights from 2016 that our subscribers and donors made possible: MedicAlert Charitable Programs No Child Without Program This charitable program was expanded to more than 60 schools in 2016, with 2,300 more families benefiting from complimentary MedicAlert protection! To date, the No Child Without program has protected more than 66,000 students across Canada. FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) Program This pilot program helped over 90 individuals living with FASD in Northern Ontario in 2016. According to Chief of Police John Syrette of Anishinabek Police Service, The MedicAlert ID has been a fantastic resource in accessing supporting family and friends in a time of crisis. Membership Assistance In 2016, this charitable program provided partial or full financial assistance for MedicAlert IDs and service plans to 1,400 more Canadian families who cannot afford MedicAlert protection. MedicAlert never turns away anyone in need of the service. Paramedics and Emergency Responders National Education Program Legends of the Call - Law Enforcement This prestigious award went to Constable Ken St. John of the Grey Country Ontario Provincial Police after he helped reunite a senior with dementia with her daughter. Legends of the Call Paramedics Paramedic John Moore of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was awarded for his outstanding performance during an emergency. From our Partnerships Alzheimer s Outreach In 2016, we ve protected over 100 residents in a long-term care facility in Vancouver, Sunrise of Lynn Valley, through the MedicAlert Safely Home program. We also supported Alzheimer s awareness month in January, Page 3

and participated in many Walks of Memories, which was held across the country by Alzheimer Society and its local chapters to show support for those families that cope with dementia every day. National Emergency Standards Project We are working with the Paramedics Association of Canada (PAC), Paramedic Chiefs of Canada (PCC) National Emergency Nurses Association (NENA) and Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) to develop Canada s first ever set of standards to increase the value and usability of patient-provided information with the ultimate aim of better protecting Canadians in a medical emergency. MedicAlert Connect Protect To date, over 2.3 million Canadians live in areas where police have quick access to MedicAlert through the MedicAlert Connect Protect service. Owen Sound Police Services, our third partnership in Ontario, became a partner in June 2016. The Good Samaritan Award This new award, created in partnership with Alzheimer Society of Canada, recognizes a Canadian for exceptional kindness and bravery. The award s first recipient was Maren from Vancouver. While it s gratifying to know that we re helping save lives in communities coast-to-coast, we know that valued subscribers and generous donors make it all possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. "Josée Turcotte" Josée Turcotte Chair, Board of Directors Robert A. Ridge President and CEO Page 4
