2 1 You have planned eight delivery routes to be carried out, as shown in the case study (Fig.1), and you are now required to allocate a vehicle to each route, using the smallest possible vehicle. 3 2 You are required to plan Joe Smith s journey from Cologne, Germany to Southampton, as described in the case study, collecting goods in Eschweiler, Germany and Ghent, Belgium. (a) Prepare a driver schedule for Joe, starting when he begins work in Cologne on Monday and finishing when he arrives at Southampton. Notes: Tachograph symbols are NOT acceptable. 5 3 You have prepared a rough estimate of the costs involved in the one-way trip to return Joe s lorry from Cologne, as described in the case study, and you have concluded that the 500 income to be earned from the collections at Eschweiler and Ghent will not be enough to cover these costs. 7 4 OCR carries out vehicle safety inspections, servicing and repairs in its on-site workshop. (a) State the minimum period for which OCR must keep records of vehicle maintenance. 8 5 OCR s Managing Director would like to operate one vehicle from a rented yard in Cologne, Germany. He intends to undertake collections and deliveries within Germany for other customers between the deliveries to, and collections from, DCR GmbH. You are required to provide the Managing Director with the following information. (a) State how many collections and deliveries within Germany may currently be carried out by an OCR vehicle (i) in the first 7 days following a delivery to DCR GmbH.... [1] (b) Outline ONE action that OCR would have to take, in relation to operator licensing, in order to allow it to carry out deliveries within Germany every weekday. If OCR wins the tender, it will have to submit financial evidence to the Central Licensing Office in order to obtain an operator licence. The licence will authorise the operation of six vehicles and six trailers from Glasgow. (a) Calculate the minimum funds (in 's) that OCR would require, to satisfy the Financial Standing criterion.
