Fact Sheet The Robert and Jeanette Hunt Community Fund Announces Challenge Grants for Building Community Endowments The Robert and Jeanette Hunt Community Fund, an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, has been established to make available a number of challenge grants of up to $50,000 per community. These challenge grants are intended to build endowments within selected communities served by Great Plains Communications, Inc. The purpose of the challenge grants and the endowments is to support long-term community development and community-sustainability activities, as opposed to supporting brick and mortar building projects. These challenge grants must be matched by the participating communities on at least a 3-1 basis within a three-year timeframe. Once the endowments are established, the proceeds from these endowments will be used to fund community development efforts, which ideally will lead to community population growth, job creation, additional wealth retention and ongoing local leadership capacity. These efforts may include support for local entrepreneurs who are starting, growing or transitioning businesses; strategies to engage youth or support youth retention; programs to develop local leadership and strengthen community capacity, including workforce development; and educational efforts intended to create an awareness of the need for additional contributions to the local community foundation The terms of the grant include an initial challenge grant of $25,000, which is to be matched by generation of $75,000 from donors in the community within a one-year period. The Robert and Jeanette Hunt Community Fund will also award an additional $5,000 for every increment of $15,000 raised from donors in the community, during a three-year period, up to $25,000. The goal is to have a total contribution from the Robert and Jeanette Hunt Community Fund of $50,000 and a local match of $150,000. The result will be an endowment for the community of at least of $200,000. Proceeds from endowments that size are expected to generate approximately $10,000. This amount would be made available annually for grant-making purposes for the local communitybuilding efforts described above.

Ideas for a Script for Donor Visitations December 2005 Fundraising for Creighton Community Foundation Thank you for giving us a few minutes of your time today. We d like to share an opportunity that has been given to our community of Creighton. We ve been issued a challenge by the Hunt Family (the owners of Great Plains Communication). They will grant us $50,000 if we can raise $150,000 during the next three years. The result would be a $200,000 Endowment that would produce earnings of approximately $10,000 per year that will be granted back to the community by the Creighton Community Foundation. We wanted to discuss this opportunity with you because we respect your opinion and advice. Do you think this is possible? Would you consider helping us (with time, talents, treasure)? Who else would you recommend we visit with? Would you introduce us? Our long term goal is to continue to grow this endowment. The foundation enables us to accept gifts of all kinds of property (stocks, bonds, real estate) and planned gifts (wills, estates, life insurance, retirement accounts). Those of us who live in Creighton or grew up in Creighton know the value of our town. We d like to keep Creighton on the map. Our forefathers built this town, our parents maintained it, now we have a chance (some say an obligation) to build it and grow it. Our goal is to make our town attractive for families with young children to choose to move to Creighton. Those young families will be our future. We wanted to show you this opportunity today. It is a way people can give a little bit back to Creighton, a place that is near and dear to a lot of us. I have personally given (pledged) $ toward this effort. Every dollar counts we hope you can join us in this effort.
