CLASSIC PAYROLL 1 0 Before you get started Due to recent changes to the Federal tax legislation, you need to make the following changes to the Pay Codes and Federal Tax tables. Change the Social Security Wage Limit Load the Federal Withholding Rates Important! Make these changes AFTER you complete the Payroll Year-end Checklist.
2 Step 1 Change Social Security Wage Limit 1 Change Social Security Wage Limit Follow these instructions to enter the Social Security Wage Limit. Do this... 1. Open Classic Payroll > Maintenance > Pay Code. 2. Look up the Social Security pay code. You can use the Lookup bar or click Search (F9). 3. Click the General 2 tab. 4. Use the Social Security Wage Limit field to enter 113,700.00. Important! The Federal government may be changing the Social Security Wage Limit in the future. We ll notify you of any changes. Payroll > Maintenance > Pay Code
CLASSIC PAYROLL 3 5. Click the Pay Periods tab. 6. Use the Pay Check Amt-Rate-% field to enter -6.20. 8. When the Update Check form displays, click OK. Update Check form 9. When the Employee Pay Code Update form displays, verify the New Value field displays 6.200-. 10. Click Update. Payroll > Maintenance > Pay Code > Pay Periods tab Note: The employee rate for 2011 and 2012 was -4.20%. The employee rate for 2013 is -6.20%. Tip! Highlight the entire amount, including the sign. Then, type in 6.20 as a positive amount. When you press the Enter key, the system assigns the correct sign to the amount. Check that the sign on the amount is negative (-) before continuing to the next step. Employoee Pay Code Update form 7. Click Save (Ctrl+S).
4 Step 2 Load Federal Withholding Rates 2 Load Federal Withholding Rates Follow these instructions to enter the 2013 Federal Withholding Rates. Do this... 1. Open Classic Payroll > Maintenance > Federal. 2. Use the FWT Exemption Amount field to enter 3,900.00. 3. Click the Withholding Rates tab. 4. Use the Marital Status menu to select Single. Marital Status menu Payroll > Maintenance > Federal > FWT Exemption Amount
CLASSIC PAYROLL 5 5. Use the amounts, shown in the following screen shot to update the Federal Withholding Rates for the single marital status. Payroll > Maintenane > Federal > Withholding Rates tab - Single Withholding Rates 6. Next, use the Marital Status menu to select Married. 7. Use the amounts, shown in the following screen shot to update the Federal Withholding Rates for the married marital status. Payroll > Maintenane > Federal > Withholding Rates tab - Married Withholding Rates
6 Step 2 Load Federal Withholding Rates You re done! The Payroll application is ready to go for 2013. Important! Make sure the State Tax tables have been updated with the 2013 state tax withholding rates.
