The sale of Edra Global Energy to the Chinese removed market overhang and further commitment by the Chinese to buy Malaysian bonds helped improve sentiment. The rise in the market was broad based as the FBM Emas also gained 0.4% m-o-m to 11,626. Other data releases during November were : (i) Malaysia's GDP which expanded 4.7% y-o-y in 3Q15, driven by capital spending in manufacturing and services sectors; (ii) Malaysia's total trade which rose 9.1% y-o-y to RM130.63bn in September 2015; (iii) Malaysia s exports which recorded 8.8% growth to a year-high of RM70.16bn in September 2015, supported by strong demand from Asean, European Union, China and United States; and (iv) Inflation which was higher at 3.0% in 3Q, mainly due to higher fuel and food prices. Stock Market Outlook Historically December was a good month for the stock market due to window dressing activities before the close of the year. However for this year, we can expect higher volatility in December as the US Fed looks to raise interest rates for the first time in 7 years. Any upside of the market could be capped as the headwinds remain. s Comment With a possibility of year-end window dressing, we will take the opportunity to lock in some profits for the fund. Bond Market Review In November 2015, the Bank Negara Malaysia kept the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) steady at 3.25% at its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. On m- o-m basis, the 7-year benchmark MGS increased by 1 bps to close at 4.08% while the 3-year, 5-year and 10-year benchmark MGS decreased by 17 bps, 2 bps and 17 bps to close at 3.42%, 3.70% and 4.20% respectively. During the month, Bank Negara had conducted two auctions namely reopening for 10-year MGS (maturing September 25) worth RM3.5 billion and reopening 3- year GII (maturing May 18) worth RM3.5 billion. Demand was soft for the 10-year MGS reopening auction, as bid-to-cover ratio was recorded near 1.50 times. Elsewhere, there was a lack of local demand for the short dated 3-year GII reopening auction despite the auction ending on decent note with a bid-cover of 1.86 times. On Corporate sector, the total corporate bonds issued were lower of RM7.5 billion from RM14.6 billion issued a month before. Among the new facilities issued were Danainfra (RM3.1 billion), Cagamas (RM1.7 billion) and MMC Corp (RM1.2 billion). Bond Market Outlook For the coming month, the Malaysian Government Bond market is set to quiet down with the Christmas break and school holiday at the end of the year. For the year 2016, apart from external concerns, impact from the prolonged weakness in Ringgit, persistently low commodity prices and declining wealth effects with higher prices will continue in 2016. s Comment Short to medium term papers are preferred at this juncture with BNM is expected to hold interest rates steady. As for the yields for longer dated papers, they are expected to rise due to the talk of higher interest rates going into 2016, inflationary pressure and expected rise in US Treasury yields.
