WHAT IS INVESTOR RELATIONS? Investor relations ( IR ) is defined as the strategic management responsibility that integrates the disciplines of finance, marketing and communications to achieve an effective two-way flow of information between a public company and the investment community, in order to enable fair and efficient capital markets
WHY DOES IR MATTER? There are roughly 20,000 publicly traded companies in North America, making an effective IR program essential to rise above the crowd At the same time, the increase in capital market regulation and investor caution driven by high-profile cases of corporate wrongdoing have dramatically amplified the risks of inadequate or misguided IR By effectively managing investor expectations, companies can attract a larger following of research analysts, institutional investors and retail investors - boosting liquidity, share value and price-to-earnings ratio and, accordingly, expanding access to the capital needed to fund growth Well executed IR programs can also decrease volatility and contribute significantly to a company s reputation not only among investors but also other important stakeholders such as customers and employees
WHAT S THE RIGHT APPROACH TO IR? If you're happy with your stock's performance and the people who hold it, then taking a mostly passive approach to IR is probably the most appropriate choice But, if you aren t completely satisfied with those two conditions, you should consider moving on to a more proactive approach In either case, Kilmer Lucas can help first by managing the entire continuous disclosure process for you saving your company the management focus and financial expense required to develop and maintain the function internally
WHAT ROLE DOES KILMER LUCAS PLAY? We help our clients to develop and share compelling investment stories If a proactive IR approach is warranted, in addition to performing all of the reactive blocking and tackling activities needed to facilitate full, plain and true continuous disclosure, we can also help to create investor interest for your company instead of just responding to it We accomplish this by providing a broad range of IR and communications services through a cost-effective retainer arrangement or on a project basis
