What is the Affordable Care Act and how does it affect me? The Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, was created to help the 16% of uninsured and eligible Americans gain access to quality and reasonably priced healthcare. Do I have to purchase insurance? Yes. It is the law. Most people must have health coverage in 2014 or pay a fee ($95 per adult, $47.50 per child, or 1% of your income, whichever is higher). The fee increases every year. Some people may qualify for an exemption to this fee. What is the Health Insurance Marketplace? The Marketplace helps uninsured people find health insurance. The Marketplace makes it easier to search for and enroll in a health insurance plan by putting all of the information about your choices that are available in your area in one place. With one application, you can compare plans side-by-side and find any free or low-cost programs you may qualify for. Most people can get lower costs. When you use the online Health Insurance Marketplace you may be able to get lower costs on your monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs. When you fill out your application, you will find out how much you can save based on your household size and income.
Who can actually buy insurance from the Marketplace? Any individual who lives in the United States, is a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. National (or are lawfully present) and who is not currently incarcerated. Can anyone be turned away for pre-existing conditions? Beginning January 1, 2014, an insurance company cannot turn you down or charge you more because of your condition or refuse treatment due to pre-existing conditions. No one can be turned away because of pre-existing conditions or because of their gender. What are the essential health benefits that come with the Affordable Care Act? At minimum you can expect these services: Ambulatory Patient Services Emergency Services Hospitalization Maternity and Newborn Care Mental Health and Substance Abuse use disorder services including Behavioral Health Treatment (Counseling and Psychotherapy) Prescription Drugs Rehabilitative Services and Devices

Depending on your household income and the size of your family, many individuals may qualify for tax credits to help lower their share of monthly premiums, help reduce deductible, copayment or other cost-sharing amounts. Other than the information that is given in this brochure, what other ways can I find out about eligibility and financial assistance for my family and me; especially for my children?
