Financial Institution Definition Potential Ambiguity General Definition of Financial Institutions Only specifically includes certain banks, broker-dealers, money services businesses, telegraph companies, casinos, card clubs, certain entities supervised by a state or federal banking regulator, FCM, IBM, and mutual funds. This definition does not appear to include registered investment advisers, CFTC CPOs and CTAs, or foreign financial institutions.
