Weekly Market Recap & Insight Week of 25 th July, to 1 st August, Indian Markets Market Indices Review The Nifty was down 1.95 points at 8636.55 and the Sensex was down 48.74 points at 28003.12 on Monday. The Sensex closed at 28,051.86, down 156.76 points over its previous close, and the Nifty shed 27.80 points to close at 8,638.50 on Friday. For the last week, the Sensex rose 0.9 percent and the Nifty by 1.1 percent. The Congress last week softened its stand on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Constitutional Amendment Bill in the ongoing monsoon session of parliament. The BJP has agreed to drop the proposal of 1 percent additional tax, which was to be levied on top of GST on passage of goods from one state to another. Indian government bonds head for best month since May 2013 on flush banking liquidity and as global investors seek yields amid signs the Fed would adopt a gradual increase in rate hike. 10-year yield steady at 7.19%; drops 26 bps so far in July. Bonds are on course for a sixth week of gains, the longest-winning streak since April. INR little changed at 67.0550/USD, up 0.7% so far this month International Markets European and Asian shares rose as the chances of a US interest-rate increase diminished, after the nation`s economic growth for the second quarter came in below expectations. The yuan headed for its biggest weekly gain in four months amid expectations the Federal Reserve will raise rates only gradually. The Fed stopped short of signaling it could boost borrowing costs in September after its meeting this week, despite appearing more upbeat about the U.S. economy.
Japan's consumer prices dropped for a fourth consecutive month, showing how far prices are from the Bank of Japan's 2 per cent inflation target. The BOJ also kept negative interest rates unchanged at minus 0.1 percent. Bank of Japan pledged to increase its purchase of exchange traded funds, while keeping interest rates steady. Initial jobless claims in the U.S. for the week ended July 23 increased by 14,000 to 266,000, according to the Labour Department, remaining at historically low levels. Data from capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) showed that mutual funds in the equity category invested Rs. 90,014.48 crore in the banking sector. This is more than the amount deployed in Mar and Apr which subsequently stood at Rs. 82,195.78 crore and 85,330.17 crore, respectively.
ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has launched a new fund named as ICICI Prudential Fixed Maturity Plan - Series 79-1120 Days Plan J, a close ended debt scheme. The tenure of the scheme is 1120 days from the date of allotment. The New Fund Offer (NFO) price for the scheme is Rs 10 per unit. The new issue opens for subscription from 27 July to 02 August. Reliance Mutual Fund has announced introduction of Monthly Dividend Payout Option and Monthly Dividend Reinvestment Option (in addition to the existing options) under Dividend Plan/Direct Plan-Dividend Plan at the face of Rs 10 per unit of Reliance Regular Savings Fund - Balanced Option, with effect from 08 August.
