Independent Auditor s Report To the Board of Directors Lenawee Humane Society Adrian, Michigan I have audited the accompanying financial statements of Lenawee Humane Society, a Nonprofit Organization, as of December 31, 2015, which comprise the statement of financial position as of December 31, 2015, and the related statements of activities and cash flows for the year then ended, and the related notes to the financial statements. Management s Responsibility for the Financial Statements Management is responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of these financial statements in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America; this includes the design, implementation, and maintenance of internal control relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. Auditor s Responsibility My responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on my audit. I conducted my audit in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. Those standards require that I plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement. An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor s judgment, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity s preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity s internal control. Accordingly, I express no such opinion. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of significant accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements. I believe that the audit evidence I have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for my audit opinion. 1

To the Board of Directors Lenawee Humane Society Adrian, Michigan Opinion In my opinion, the financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of Lenawee Humane Society as of December 31, 2015, and the changes in its net assets and its cash flows for the year then ended in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America. Report on Summarized Comparative Information I have previously audited Lenawee Humane Society s 2014 financial statements, and I expressed an unmodified audit opinion on those audited financial statements in my report dated March 11, 2015. In my opinion, the summarized comparative information presented herein as of and for the year ended December 31, 2014 is consistent, in all material respects, with the audited financial statements from which it has been derived. Adrian, Michigan February 10, 2016 2

Notes To Financial Statements December 31, 2015 1. Summary of Significant Accounting Policies Organization The Lenawee Humane Society (LHS) is a non-profit, tax exempt organization, incorporated in the State of Michigan in 1921. LHS is dedicated to caring for unwanted animals and providing them with necessary medical treatment, food and shelter until we can find them a permanent home environment. Lenawee Humane Society s major sources of revenue are contributions and program fees from adoption and store sales. Basis of Accounting The records of LHS are maintained on the accrual basis of accounting. Using this method, revenues are recognized when earned and expenses are recognized when incurred. Financial Statement Presentation The financial statements include certain prior-year summarized comparative information in total but not by net asset class. Such information does not include sufficient detail to constitute a presentation in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles. Accordingly, such information should be read in conjunction with the organization s financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2014, from which the summarized information was derived. LHS has adopted Statement of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 117, Financial Statement for Not-for-Profit Organizations. Under SFAS No. 117, LHS is required to report information regarding its financial position and activities according to three classes of net assets: Unrestricted, Temporarily Restricted, and Permanently Restricted. The following classes are maintained: Unrestricted Net Assets The unrestricted net asset class includes general and board-designated assets and liabilities of LHS. The unrestricted net assets of LHS may be used at the discretion of management to support LHS s purposes and operations. Temporarily Restricted Net Assets The temporarily restricted net asset class includes assets and trust obligations of LHS related to grants or gifts with explicit donor-imposed restrictions that have not been met as to a specified purpose, or to later periods of time or after specified dates. Cash and Cash Equivalents For purposes of the Statement of Cash Flows, LHS considers all demand deposits in the bank to be cash. 8

Notes To Financial Statements December 31, 2015 1. Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (Continued) Inventories Inventories are stated at the lower of cost or market, on a first-in, first-out basis. Capital Assets Capital assets are stated at cost or fair market value on the date received. Those assets that are expected to provide benefit to future periods are capitalized. Assets are depreciated over their estimated useful lives on the straight-line method. Contributions LHS reports grants and program revenue as restricted support. When the grant or program requirements are met, temporarily restricted net assets are reclassified to unrestricted net assets and reported in the Statement of Activities as net assets released from restrictions. Advertising LHS s expenses advertising costs as they are incurred. Advertising expenses for the years ended December 31, 2015 and 2014 were $8,510 and $12,262, respectively. Subsequent Events LHS s management has considered subsequent events to February 10, 2016. The financial statements were available to be issued on February 10, 2016. Use of Estimates The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America requires management to make estimates and assumptions that affect the reported assets and liabilities and disclosure of contingent assets and liabilities at the date of the financial statements and the reported amounts of revenues and expenses during the reporting period. Actual results could differ from those estimates. 2. Tax-Exempt Entity The Lenawee Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which is exempt from Federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. According to the Internal Revenue Service s statute of limitations, there are three years, 2013-2015, of Form 990 information returns that are potentially subject to examination. 9

Notes To Financial Statements December 31, 2015 3. Deposits and Investments Deposits Custodial credit risk is the risk that in the event of a bank failure, the deposits may not be returned to LHS. LHS does not have a deposit policy for custodial credit risk. As of December 31, 2015, LHS s bank balance of $59,315 had no exposure to custodial credit risk. All deposits were insured. 4. Inventory At December 31, 2015 and 2014, inventory consisted of finished goods of $5,655 and $5,265, respectively, available for sale in the Pawpourri Store. 5.
