The greenback, in which gold is priced, has been bolstered by the euro's fall, which has been dogged by concerns over the European banks' exposure to Turkey. "People have preferred to stay away from gold and park their money in other assets, "If gold closes below $l,190, prices will extend their fall to $1,150 or even more... We don't expect any major bounce back as all fundamentals are negative for gold. said Hareesh V, head of commodity research, Geojit Financial Services, based in south Indian city of Kochi. CRUDE OIL: Oil prices fell on Wednesday, pulled down by a report of increased U.S. crude inventories and as a darkening economic outlook stoked expectations of lower fuel demand. "Oil prices... fell after the API inventory data showed an unexpected crude build last week," said William O'Loughlin, investment analyst at Australia's Rivkin Securities. BMI Research said oil markets would "struggle for direction, as uncertainty around both the impact on supply from the Iranian sanctions and escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China persists. U.S. EQUITIES: The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 112.22 points to close at 25,299.92, while the S&P 500 gained 0.6 percent to 2,839.96. Both indexes also snapped four-day losing streaks. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.7 percent, closing at 7,870.89. Tensions between the two countries intensified after a Turkish delegation left Washington last week with no apparent progress on the detention of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, who is charged with supporting a group blamed for an attempted coup in 2016. U.S. DOLLAR: The dollar hit another 13-month high against a basket of major currencies on Wednesday as safe-haven demand rooted in fears over fallout from the Turkish lira's recent drop boosted the U.S. currency. As of 0353 GMT on Wednesday, an index that tracks the dollar against the euro, yen and four other currencies rose 0.1 percent to trade as high as 96.862, its highest level since reaching 97.447 on June 27, 2017. Glossary of Terms Relative Strength Index (RSI): The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a popular oscillator used by traders. The name "Relative Strength Index" is slightly misleading as the RSI does not compare the relative strength of two securities, but rather the internal strength of a single security. A more appropriate name might be "Internal Strength Index." The RSI is a fairly simple formula, but is difficult to explain without pages of examples. The Moving Average Convergence/Divergence indicator (MACD): is calculated by subtracting 26-period exponential moving average from 12-period exponential moving average. A 9-period dotted exponential moving average (the "signal line") is automatically displayed on top of the MACD indicator line. The Stochastic Oscillator: is based on stochastic mathematics. It compares where a security's price closed relative to its trading range over the last x-time periods. The Stochastic Oscillator always ranges between 0% and 100%. A reading of 0% shows that the security's close was the lowest price that the security has traded during the preceding x-time periods. A reading of 100% shows that the security's close was the highest price that the security has traded during the preceding x-time periods. The Stochastic Oscillator indicates an oversold state below 20% and an overbought state above 80%. Bollinger Bands: is a type of envelope developed by John Bollinger. Bollinger Bands are plotted at standard deviation levels above and below a moving average. The moving average generally taken is a 20-DMA, while the standard deviation count is 2. This is a very good to gauge both the general direction and the volatility. 5
