Agenda Item 8C CITY OF FERNDALE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION FROM: SUBJECT: Loyd Cureton, Director of Public Works Harding Park Memorial Play Structure SUMMARY & BACKGROUND: In memory of their daughter, Kayla, Russ and Susan White (long-time Ferndale residents) are seeking Council permission to pay for a play structure to be put up at Harding Park. The proposed memorial play structure would include a free-standing glass-fiber-reinforced polymer penguin. Harding Park was chosen by Mr. and Mrs. White because they live close by and remember how often their daughter enjoyed playing there while she was growing up. Per the Council Policy regarding Naming of City Facilities and Lands, staff brought the request to name the structure after the White s Daughter to the Parks and Rec Board. The Park and Rec Commission recommends Council approval provided that the proposed structure matches the color theme at Garbutt Park and it is installed with two years of the Council approval date.
