Evening arrival at the hotel to check in and have dinner on your own. Hotel: Drury Inn, Charlotte, NC Sunday, April 7: The Gone with the Wind Experience After breakfast depart for Georgia with an afternoon arrival at the Road to Tara Museum. Whether you re a Gone With the Wind fan or history buff, the Road to Tara Museum boasts items from the famous movie and book, along with artifacts from the Civil War. We will be joined by a costumed step-on guide for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the details of the book and the unique ties to Jonesboro. Then it s onto the Margaret Mitchell House & Museum, on the historic site where she actually wrote the famous novel. Our last stop will be a tour of the Stately Oak Plantation, the mansion is decorated to reflect the daily life of a bygone era. Dinner this evening will be in the Bethel One-Room School on the Mansion grounds of Stately Oaks Plantation with a storyteller. Next, we tour the Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, one of the city s earliest and most significant above-ground burial sites. This afternoon enjoy free time for lunch on own and shopping in the Garden District. As you walk down Magazine Street you can feel the energy as antique shops give way to contemporary design studios, offbeat clothing stores, restaurants, and much more. Following lunch, we visit Mardi Gras World where you see the floats and learn the history of this famous event. Tonight, enjoy a dinner Jazz cruise on the authentic Steamboat NATCHEZ. (Breakfast, Dinner) Wednesday, April 10: Nottoway Plantation Tour, Oak Alley Plantation & Swamp Boat Tour After breakfast we depart for the Nottoway Plantation where a costumed guide will lead us through the Mansion s spectacular rooms, sharing details of the lavish construction and stories of the fascinating history, including the survival through the Civil War. Next our costume guide provides a tour of Oak Alley Plantation with our costume guide. The Greek Revival Mansion was named for the two rows of live oaks, planted in the early 1700 s. You will have time to stroll the plantation grounds before enjoying a delightful Cajun lunch buffet. Following lunch we take a journey by boat, Cajun-style, through the heart of Southern Louisiana s swamplands. The Cajun native guide will share the legends and lore of Louisiana s still untamed wilderness. Bring your camera and capture wildlife at any time! Alligators, snakes, egrets, white-tailed deer, mink and nutria all make their home here in the Louisiana swamplands. French Quarter Jazz Thursday, April 11: Arlington Antebellum House & Gardens Enjoy breakfast before departing for Alabama. This afternoon we arrive for a tour of the Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens, Birmingham s only Greek Revival structure. This wonderfully preserved two- story house with spacious porches and balconies was built by Judge William S. Mudd, one of the 10 founders of the city. The rooms are furnished with 19th century furniture, artwork and crafts. Following our tour we will check into the hotel with time to freshen up before dinner at a local restaurant.
