Developed in partnership with the Retirement Living Council, the Village Management lndustry Diploma caters to the sector s demand for high quality professional development. AIM To be a successful Village Manager you must be customer service oriented and business focused. This course will help participants acquire the unique range of skills and knowledge to manage a modern retirement village community successfully. Material presented is tailored to allow for state-specific industry standards and legislation. Participants undertaking the Village Management lndustry Diploma will also acquire skills and knowledge to assist their village meet the 26 standards required as part of the retirement living sector s Lifemark accreditation scheme. AIM The aim of this interactive e-learning module is to provide participants with an understanding of the role of retirement living in Australia, the types of retirement living offerings and the role and responsibilities of a Village Manager. LEARNING OUTCOME By the end of this course you should know a little about the history of retirement villages, as well as the specific roles and responsibilities of a successful Village Manager. Roles and responsibilities of the Village Manager: including administration, financial management, lifestyle, service delivery and resident engagement, asset management, community engagement and promotion, people management, compliance and improvement. PRE-REQUISITE: Introduction to the Retirement Living Industry (e-learning module). LEARNING OUTCOME In this half-day course (4.5 hours), participants will gain an understanding of the relevant government policy and legislative requirements that retirement villages must abide by, and will understand the key sections of their state s Retirement Villages Act. CONTENT The program will address the Act using the following milestones: Module 1: Overview of the regulation of retirement villages. This is a general introduction to retirement villages and the regulatory framework (1 hour) Module 2: When a resident moves into the village (1 hour) Module 3: While a resident lives in the village (1.5 hours) Module 4: When a resident moves out of the village (1 hour) Modules 2, 3 and 4 focus on the obligations and rights of operators and residents, under the relevant state retirement villages legislation, structured in the form of chronology from the time a resident enters the village to the time they leave the village, presented in three short lectures, each followed by an interactive session in which the participants together workshop solutions to hypothetical fact scenarios drawn from real life examples. PRE-REQUISITE: Introduction to the Retirement Living Industry (e-learning module) and Navigating the Retirement Villages Act (half-day workshop). LEARNING OUTCOME There are many elements that make up the role of a retirement village manager. More than ever, Village Managers are required to possess a diverse and unique range of skills: financial planner, mediator, human resources manager, mentor the list can sometimes feel endless. During this three day Village Management Advanced program, participants will acquire the skills and knowledge required to manage a modern retirement community, with experienced retirement living industry professionals on hand to pass on their wisdom and talk about their real life experiences. COURSE HANDBOOK 2016 VILLAGE MANAGEMENT ELECTIVES Village Management Electives are for those currently working in the retirement living industry and looking to enhance their leadership capabilities within the village community. PRE-REQUISITE: Village Management Advanced. Each elective is a one-day course designed to be undertaken as part of the Village Management Industry Diploma; however, each elective may be taken as a stand-alone course. Facilities and Asset Management This course overviews the day-to-day management of the village along with strategic management and financial decisions concerning capital expenditure, refurbishment and preventative maintenance. AARON ROSS VILLAGE MANAGER AT MAROUBRA GARDENS VILLAGE I found the Village Management Advanced course to be educational and lots of fun at the same time. The presenters were highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields and they obviously knew their stuff. The whole course was interactive with many anecdotes of what is happening in real life in villages and it was great to listen to and learn from peers. The supportive nature of the forum allowed and encouraged participation.
