Short Duration Scorecard Second Quarter 2018 Summary Short-term bond yields have risen over 1% in the last year. While rising interest rates put downward pressure on bond prices, higher yields allow assets to compound faster going forward and provide a greater cushion to future returns should interest rates continue to climb. Lower quality bonds beat higher quality for the quarter and trailing year, with 'BBB' rated securities beating 'AAA' by 0.24% and 0.74%, respectively. Boosted by 'A' and 'BBB' rated securities, s were the best performing sector, gaining 0.47% for the quarter.
