Econ 8401-T.Holmes Lecture on Foreign Direct Investment FDI is massive. As noted in Ramondo and Rodriquez-Clare, worldwide sales of multinationals is on the order of twice that of total world exports. To get started on the topic, let s begin with Helpman, Melitz, and Yeaple (AER, 2004). It is a relatively straightforward paper that highlights key issues. 1 Helpman, Melitz, and Yeaple (2004) ThepaperextendstheMelitzmodeltoaddanewmargin.
