TECHNOLOGY (Vote for up to three candidates) Hugh Lakshman Henry Han Chen Paul San Valentin Shyam Kolli Ravi Bhagat Shane Kohls Guangwei Fan Hugh Lakshman, FSA, MAAA Director & Actuary Commercial Markets Independence Blue Cross Philadelphia, PA I have been working in Health for the past 15 years and completed my FSA about 10 years ago. In my current role I oversee Commercial Pricing. I also have prior experience in reserving as well as medical cost and analytics. Member of the Health and Technology sections Technology is something that impacts all practice areas. HealthCare is a practice area that is constantly evolving and as such is constantly using technology in new ways. After attending the Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, I noticed that there was not a lot of representation of health actuaries in the technology section. If elected, I would like to help bridge that gap.

Henry Han Chen, FSA, ACIA, MAAA Senior Consultant Ernst & Young LLP Chicago, IL Henry is a senior actuarial consultant of Ernst & Young LLP based in its Chicago office, with a demonstrated history of working experiences in the life and health insurance industry. Current areas of focus include actuarial transformation, actuarial risk and governance, automation, and advanced analytics within the actuarial functions. Prior to EY, Henry held a position with RBC Insurance in Canada, where he provided risk management support to its life and health business, including providing opinion on adequacy of company s liabilities, sufficiency of capital, future financial conditions, risk mitigation and supporting on business strategies. He also held several internship positions in asset management, fixed income trading, and economic capital roles. Active volunteer, Exams and Curriculum Committee (2017- ) Active volunteer, elearning Committee (2017-) Active member of the following sections: Technology, Entrepreneurial & Innovation, Financial Reporting, International, Joint Risk Management Technology, innovation, and evolutionary change are challenging the actuarial profession in the insurance industry, and, as a millennial, I find this challenge very exciting. As progress due to technology becomes more volatile and less predictable, we are entering a period of extreme disruption ahead. It becomes increasingly important for actuaries to help the industry embrace these changes and to develop and share a clear vision of the impact on our actuarial profession. I am keen to strengthen the presence of the technology section of the SOA and bring fresh ideas and vision from a millennial actuary. Paul San Valentin, FSA, CERA, MAAA Senior Consultant Ernst & Young Houston, TX Paul San Valentin is a Senior in the Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP. He has over 8 years of experience with time spent as a consultant, and prior to that as a valuation actuary for several multinational firms. His most recent experience includes model validation, actuarial transformation, actuarial audit and model conversion. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Paul is a graduate of Florida State University. I ve been a member of the Education committee since 2015, participating in the writing and grading of ERM exam for multiple sittings. I m also a member of various SOA sections such as Financial Reporting, Predictive Analytics and Futurism, and Technology.

I support a wide variety of education and humanitarian causes. My latest volunteer activity was assisting in the distribution of relief goods for typhoon victims in the Philippines. I ve been a user of technology during my career in the industry, but it s not until I recently shifted my career to consulting when I was exposed to the wide variety of technology that s starting to get a lot of attention outside the actuarial world. I personally believe that we as a profession are so comfortable with the traditional tools such as Excel, tend to ignore other tools that are potentially faster, more efficient and controlled, that can help us perform better at our primary task solving business problems. I plan to use my time in the council as an opportunity to facilitate with educating our profession with these new emerging technologies that can take us to the next frontier. Shyam Kolli, FSA, MAAA Consulting Actuary Milliman Atlanta, GA Shyam is a Health Actuary with Milliman. He has 11+ years of experience as a health actuary working for Milliman and UnitedHealth Group. Member of SOA sections: Health, Product, and Technology Speaker at 2015 and 2016 Valuation Symposium and SOA Annual Meeting & Exhibit SOA Exam Supervisor (Proctor) from 2011 to 2015 Member of the Actuarial Value workgroup committee for American Academy of Actuaries during 2012-2013 To help actuaries better leverage the rapid advances in data and technology resources for use in their day to day actuarial work resulting in improved quality and efficiencies for the benefit of their organizations and many other stakeholders who are impacted by their work.

He wants to help the society and its members embrace the unique demands that this progression places on the actuary and their abilities to leverage emerging technology and innovative solutions for activities such as assumption setting, actuarial calculations, reporting and data management (to name a few).
