The first Western Australian stamp, a 1d black, was issued in 1854 and was printed by Perkins, Bacon in London. The need for 4d and 1/- stamps was soon established and these were printed in Western Australia from lithographic printing stones with transfers derived from the 1d stamps. Both the 4d and 1/- stamps were made up of two transfers, one for the Swan and one for the frame or lettering. In placing one of the transfers for the frame for the 4d value it became upside-down or inverted on the stone in relation to the Swan. The resulting stamps, error Frame Inverted, are some of the rarest, only fourteen being recorded. For many years it was believed that the error was Inverted Swan until the original printing stone was found, and the truth discovered. The most valuable Australian stamp is from this era the Inverted Frame 4d blue Western Australian issue of 1854. As a result of a transfer error in laying down the stamp image on a lithographic printing stone, the framework of lettering of one stamp image was inverted in relation to the Black Swan. This led to printing of one Inverted Frame stamp in each sheet, with only about 14 examples surviving today. Several Inverted Frame stamps are institutional collections, including three examples owned by Australian museums. Since Inverted Frame stamps have fetched around $80,000 $100,000 at public auction many years ago, and would probably reach a great deal more if sold today. The stamp error is Australia s most valuable object for its size and weight. A very interesting find in a Box Lot from Ace Auctions. An Auction in London on the 4 th March 1904 the 1854 4d Swan Inverted (know now as Frame Inverted) error sold for 400.

40 th Anniversary The Victoria Park Stamp Club is celebrating their 40th Anniversary on Wednesday 6th April 2016 The club began as a small group housed in the old Victoria Park Library at 2 Mint Street East Victoria Park in 1976. Founding member Mrs Norah Jackson was the club Secretary at that time, and has continued to serve the club in that capacity to the present day. The club meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Uniting Church on the corner of Star and Archer Streets in Carlisle. 1. Notable Penny Red stamp sold The second most valuable stamp in all of the United Kingdom has been sold for a whopping 495,000, The Guardian reports. That sum equates to US$552,499.20. The sale to an unnamed British collector occurred last week and was facilitated by London-based dealers Stanley Gibbons. This example of the Plate 77 Penny Red stamp is one of five used examples known to philatelists, according to The Guardian, and is well-known as one of the most valuable stamps in the UK. Plate 77 Penny Reds, which date from 1863, are viewed by collectors and investors as the holy grail of philately because Plate 77 stamps were not meant to exist, The Guardian reports. The stamps were created but never sold by post offices after they were not considered to be of good enough quality. Questions are encouraged at any time. If you wish to spend more time on one class over another then consensus of those attending will override the agenda. Above is that agenda for the Exhibitors Training Course that will take place on Sunday 22 nd May 2016 from 9am to 5pm. I am catering for all levels of exhibitors from beginners to those that would just need some more knowledge on the rules and how judges apply these rules. I have catered for all classes from Club Class to National Classes that will be available at Mandurah 3-5November 2016. I have not forgotten State Classes and the agenda allows for this in the hour when I discuss all classes. The emphasis in this hour will be on classes not covered later in the course, and we will discuss them again after the main classes. As I believe that you should pay some of the cost of the course notes as well as tea and coffee a small charge of $5 will be required to attend this course. As with all classes those 16 and under will be admitted free. If we have youth attendees then obviously this will be covered in more detail under The classes that are available.
