Why An Auxiliary? Affiliation with an Auxiliary gives a feeling of pride in the Fire Fighters and an Auxiliary gives the families a chance to associate together. An Auxiliary means added strength to the Local. It teaches your members how they can help preserve Locals and Unions. An Auxiliary is a valuable ally. It can help Fire Fighters battle their continuous struggle for better economic and social standing. Through Auxiliary work, members can create valuable public relations in their contact with other clubs, churches, schools and the general public. An Auxiliary promotes interest in Legislative needs of Fire Fighters and their families. Members, on a national basis, can make thousands of contacts with elected officials concerning favorable legislation. The Auxiliary is able to secure valuable publicity for the Fire Fighters. They enlist the interest and support of the community to the problems of the Fire Fighters. The Auxiliary assist the Local whenever called upon. Auxiliaries should never try to interfere with the Local union business. The Auxiliary members individually and as a group, helps stimulate interest in the Local, so attendance is increased and the Local consequently becomes stronger. With so many points in favor, wouldn t you be wise to organize an Auxiliary to your Local, and encourage all spouses to become members. This would further secure the Fire Fighters position and enhance the chances for a brighter future. The Auxiliary has a sizable job to do but greater participation is needed if we are to accomplish our goals satisfactory. An Organized and Affiliated Auxiliary Means That Each Local or Union Member is ONE MEMBER WITH TWO VOTES All work in the Auxiliary to the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters is by volunteer and there are no paid officers. Only expenses for Auxiliary business and expenses to convention are paid to officers. If you have further questions PLEASE ask. You may contact any of the Officers. We are here for you. We NEED You. To Be Here When Needed IS The Greatest Gift We Can Give

Procedure for Organizing an Auxiliary 1. Permission MUST be granted from the Local Association to organize. We are an extension of the local. We NEVER get involved in the business of that local. We do support and assist when asked by the local. We are an extension of that local so what we do in the communities reflect back on them. That local Executive Board has the right to disband any auxiliary. 2. If not already, you MUST be chartered with the Auxiliary to the International Association of Fire Fighters. 3. Personal invitations should be sent to each person who is eligible at least a week in advance stating the date, time and location of the organizational meeting. 4. If you are NOT chartered with the AIAFF please get the AIAFF Organizational Packet online and complete. 5. Once you are chartered with the AIAFF, the Local Auxiliary may then vote to become affiliated with the Auxiliary to the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters. The enclosed application for affiliation is then completed and returned to the ATSAFF President, along with the charter fee of $20.00 with your membership forms, dues, and By-Laws. The dues are $0.40 per member, per month. If you have any questions please ask. A list of the ATSAFF Officers is enclosed in this packet. We look forward to hearing from you!
