CARE EXPERTISE THAT WORKS FOR YOU

INTRODUCING CARE FROM RSA At RSA, we know the growing Health, Care and Social sector is made up of a variety of businesses providing diverse services to meet a broad range of care needs. These services come with their own specific risks that may not be covered by standard business insurance. We know that safeguarding your employees and clients is your top priority so our insurance products and Risk Consulting services are shaped to reflect this. Our established knowledge of the Care sector, which we have served for many years, has enabled us to create a new Care package and deliver tailored insurance that will meet your exact requirements. Backed by our expert risk consultancy and claims service, you can be sure your specific needs are covered.

THE EXPERTISE TO DO MORE It s our belief that as well as making us stand out, our expertise allows us to do more for you. By taking the time to get to know your business and put your needs first, we are able to craft practical solutions that give you complete confidence in your protection. Care has been designed to support care homes, hospices, residential homes and day care centres, as well as, children s homes, homes for supported living, domiciliary care providers and counselling for vulnerable children and adults.

IT ALL STARTS WITH RISK CONSULTING

Our Risk Consultants bring not only technical expertise but sector insights so you can prepare through prevention for what may come. This enables us to identify and mitigate potential risks within your operation that may cause damage, injury or harm. We also partner with selected external experts to ensure that you have access to the best risk management advice available and where appropriate we will appoint a single point of contact to manage all your requirements. Our support to you includes but is not limited to the following areas: PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS CONSULTATION Safeguarding procedures in the Care sector are vital to ensure full protection is in place. RSA Risk Consulting is able to carry out a focused PCVA consultation, which will ensure that potential risks are identified and that adequate control measures and documented procedures are in place to protect your business. FIRE SAFETY It s vital that effective emergency plans and evacuation procedures are in place to ensure that all persons can be evacuated to a place of safety in the event of a fire. We can review your existing procedures and use our experience and expertise in fire safety management to ensure these are fit for purpose. MANUAL HANDLING Manual handling is the biggest single cause of lost-time accidents in the UK. We can reduce the risks arising from this activity by carrying out a focused review of potential manual handling risks, and advise on measures to eliminate or reduce them. We can also provide manual handling training for your employees, relevant to actual activities carried out within an individual workplace. Partnering with market leaders Pristine Condition helps us provide innovative solutions to your manual handling challenges. SLIPS AND TRIPS Slips and trips are one of the biggest hazards for businesses in the Care sector. RSA can support with physical condition inspections of premises to help ensure your conditions are suitable, and assist in ensuring that your housekeeping and maintenance standards are consistently maintained. We also have a partnership with Bonasystems which has extensive experience of reducing slip and trip incidents in the Care sector.

WORK RELATED STRESS Working with us, you have the opportunity to reduce your potential exposure to work related stress issues. This is done by carrying out specific stress-related consultations and advising on stress risk assessments. We can help you with implementing suitable control measures in accordance with management standards recommended in Health and Safety Executive guidance. We can also provide stress risk management and employee awareness training, and call on specialists in employee healthcare and wellbeing programmes. LONE WORKING You can count on our assistance in carrying out lone worker risk assessments, and in ensuring that procedures for communication and supervision are suitable and sufficient. Our consultation will review potential risks, and we can assist in advising on suitable control measures. CONTROL OF CONTRACTORS We can provide advice and assistance regarding the selection, vetting and approval of contractors. This includes inspections of construction sites and contractors activities. INFECTION CONTROL We have consultants experienced in food safety and infection control who can advise on suitable control measures. We can also help you with the development of bespoke infection control training courses, if required. MANAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEE TRAINING Assistance is available in developing and delivering bespoke face-to-face training to meet your specific requirements. We can also provide internet-based training. Working in conjunction with Safety Media, RSA has created a bespoke Health and Safety Management system which can be tailored to your business, helping you better inform and protect your employees. RSA has also provided bespoke IOSH Managing Safety training for a number of customers in the Care sector. This has been effective in engaging frontline management employees, and resulted in significant improvements to health and safety management. BUSINESS CONTINUITY People who care for the elderly, frail or vulnerable in a residential setting need to be more prepared than most to deal with an emergency situation. While some businesses can easily outsource their services, for care providers this comes with significant challenges, including care plans and medical records, medication and other specialist requirements. Your continuity planning needs to focus as much on minimising the likelihood of loss in the first place as its ability to transfer care ensuring those in care experience as little trauma as possible. Emergency Response procedures and Communication Planning have a critical part to play at a time of potential uncertainty. They affect both service users and their families, making sure they know what is happening and maintaining as much certainty as possible. RSA can provide you with focused Business Continuity Consultancy and an online Business Continuity Management System, allowing you to address and maintain these critical elements.

WE CARE ABOUT THE DETAILS

CARE PACKAGE Applying our expertise and knowledge of the Care sector, we offer a suite of covers included as standard for the most common risks associated with those entrusted in your care. EMPLOYERS LIABILITY We can cover your business against the cost of a claim arising from employee illness or injury sustained as a result of their work for you. We know that lifting or moving those you care for, or physical abuse sustained from children, the elderly and disabled people are frequent incidents that arise in the Care industry. We re here to help your staff get back on their feet. PUBLIC/PRODUCTS LIABILITY If a claim is brought against you for damage to third-party property or bodily injury to any member of the public, RSA has you covered. Rest assured that we can also cover you if the unexpected were to happen to your visitors. DETERIORATION OF STOCK If your fridge or freezers were to break down, resulting in having to outsource meals, which may compromise on quality and service, we are here to help you get back up and running as quickly as possible. INFECTIOUS DISEASE, MURDER, FOOD POISONING, DEFECTIVE SANITATION AND VERMIN It is vital in the Care sector to have cover for events that cause disruption to your business operations. If something unfortunate should happen in this respect, this cover will protect your revenue throughout this difficult period. ACCOMMODATION AND SHELTERED HOUSING If you need to re-home your residents temporarily due to an unforeseen incident, we understand and can cover the costs associated. We re here to help you maintain the service you provide. FATAL INJURY ON EXCURSIONS If a fatal injury happens to someone under your care while on an excursion, we can help protect your revenue in the short term. So if you were to find you had an unfilled place at your residence resulting in the loss of revenue or interruption to your business, we are here to help.

LIFTS AND STAIRS If an incident were to cause your stairs and lifts to be out of action, this cover can protect you against any loss of revenue. For example, you may need to hire extra staff or resolve logistical impacts if the normal use of the building was affected. TRACE AND ACCESS, THEFT OF EXTERNAL METAL, AND GROUNDSMEN S MACHINES If you have a leak at your facility, lead stolen from your roof, or damage to your ride-on lawnmowers, we understand the impact this can have to your business. We ll help you claim to maintain the internal and external environment of your business. SUPPLIERS AND OFF-SITE STORAGE If there is a problem which means you can t get an important delivery, or if there is damage to your belongings offsite, we can help cover any revenue lost as a result.

CARE EXTRAS Our experts also recommend considering the following covers when providing care: MEDICAL MALPRACTICE LIABILITY We can cover the cost of compensating your customers for loss or damage arising from any bodily injury, mental injury, illness, disease or death of any patient caused by any negligent act, error or omission committed by your employees. If you find that you are liable for a claim as your staff failed to administer medication correctly or they failed in their responsibilities, this cover is here to protect your business. IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICES LIABILITY If the worst should happen due to a procedure carried out on a resident by your staff, we can cover you if a claim is made against your business. PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS OR ABUSE When running a care facility, you could potentially be looking after vulnerable persons, and could be exposed to a liability claim if any abuse were to occur. This cover provides certainty in how you are protected in such circumstances. FINANCIAL LOSS Designed to protect you against financial loss caused to a third party incurred in connection to your care facility.

ADDITIONAL EXTRAS And of course, we offer cover for events such as: Money/personal injury Terrorism Fidelity Personal accident Loss of registration certificate Transit Computer equipment.
