FIREFIGHTERS PENSION SCHEME This is a list of the files which can be found on the FPS Commentary pages. For each Rule of the Firemen's Pension Scheme Order 1992 (as amended) there is a file offering an explanation of the provisions of the Rule. Sometimes, when amendments are made to a Rule under an Amending Order, the heading of the Rule is not changed. Consequently the heading may cease to give a clear indication of the contents. For example, Rule C1 which is headed "Spouse's ordinary pension" in the Firemen's Pension Scheme Order 1992, also contains provisions for an ordinary pension to be paid to a surviving civil partner. In these cases, for ease of reference, the title of the Commentary file will vary from the "official" heading. You will see below that the Commentary file for Rule C1 has the title "Spouse's or civil partner's ordinary pension" and the correct heading of the Rule is given in italics alongside. If a Rule has been removed in whole or in part from the Order, you will still be able to access the file but the information it contains may be "archived" (in grey typeface). You will also see that, listed at the end of Parts B, C and D, there are "Gen" files, for example "B Gen 1" and "B Gen 2" appear at the end of Part B. The content of these files does not relate to a specific Rule, but pulls together items of information which could be relevant to more than one Rule within a Part and which may have been carried forward from earlier versions of the FPS. Similarly, the Annexes were written to explain issues which could have an impact on a firefighter's pension but which may not be mentioned, or fully explained, in the Rules of the Firemen's Pension Scheme Order. More information is given about the way in which the files have been constructed in "How to use the Commentary".
