BUNBURY ROWING CLUB OF WA STRATEGIC PLAN July 2014 July 2017 VISION: Making rowing an enjoyable experience for people in the Greater Bunbury Region. MISSION: Act, Belong, Commit To have more people involved in rowing through Bunbury Rowing Club. To have people enjoy their involvement with Bunbury Rowing Club. CORE VALUES: Choose Respect Excellence to provide excellence in all that we do. Integrity to operate in a fair and transparent manner. Teamwork Everyone works towards a common goal. Encapsulated by our motto Pull Your Weight and BRC s involvement in the community strategy Choose Respect. BACKGROUND TO PLAN The Appendix contains various documents and surveys used to inform this plan. These documents and surveys are: Survey of members completed at beginning of 2014 Volunteer audit conducted April 2014 Health Club checklist conducted April 2014 SWOT analysis conducted April 2014 Goals from beginning of the committee year, November 2013 Overview of current memberships as per May 2014 1 BRC DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN 2014-2017

BRC has been operating for nearly 100 years, having been formed in 1921. The information from all of the above confirmed that it is a great club to belong to with lots of positive things happening. However, it is now a time for the club to consolidate, review and refine some of its underlying processes and continue to build while also cementing its place as part of the larger community of Greater Bunbury. BRC has a diverse membership that includes teenagers through to retirees. As each group has diverse and differing needs to other groups, BRC can splinter and so the priority in 2014 is to have a club that continues to grow in an inclusive manner and with a positive vibe about it, providing its members with opportunities to belong, act and commit to enhance their overall well being. This aim is encapsulated by objectives 1 and 2 below. However, it must be recognised that BRC is a rowing club and so is committed to ensuring that the sport of rowing continues to be developed throughout the Greater Bunbury region and its members have the opportunity to improve and be successful in their rowing. Thus objectives 3 and 4 are centred on rowing itself. Ongoing financial security underpins this strategic plan. OBJECTIVES: These objectives will help Bunbury Rowing Club to provide facilities and support to its members within a positive, inclusive environment that enables each member to participate in rowing and related activities at a level they wish to participate. 1. To develop a positive club culture within Bunbury Rowing Club (Act, Belong, Commit). 2. To expand, broaden and retain the membership base of Bunbury Rowing Club. 3. To provide appropriate facilities for rowing at Bunbury Rowing Club. 4. To develop rowing and rowing related skills in the members of Bunbury Rowing Club NB: Bunbury Rowing Club recognises the need for financial security that entails sufficient funds and careful budgeting in order to work towards achieving these objectives. Membership costs are kept as low as possible in order to be inclusive for all members. Thus, funding obtained through membership covers basic running costs. To allow boat replacement, major infrastructure work and/or to assist running of regattas, funding from fundraising and grants is continually sought, coordinated by the Fundraising/ Grants Coordinator and assisted by the and members. Excess funds are also placed in a high interest bearing account while awaiting decisions re expenditure. Each portfolio position has a yearly budget approved by the President and Treasurer. All expenditure is approved by the in the context of these ongoing careful and balanced budgeting processes. Throughout the plan that follows, there is indication of specifically where money raised through fundraising and grants is to be targeted. 2 BRC DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN 2014-2017
