1. Character Each applicant must be of good character. Each applicant must have good interpersonal skills and judgement. 2. Health Candidates shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. For the purpose of satisfying this requirement it will be necessary for successful candidates, before they are appointed, to undergo at their expense a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the local authority. On taking up appointment the expense of the medical examination will be refunded to candidates. 3. Education Each candidate must have a good general education of a sufficient standard to enable that person to understand fully and carry out the duties of the post. 4. Licence Each applicant must, at minimum, hold a full current European Communities Model Licence Category B free from endorsement. 5. Experience Experience in a similar role is desirable. PARTICULARS OF EMPLOYMENT 1. Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority who are liable to pay the Class D rate of PRSI contribution will be required, in respect of their superannuation, to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 5% of their pensionable remuneration. All persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority are required, in respect of the Local Government (Spouses and Childrens Contributory Pension) Scheme, 1986, to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration in accordance with the terms of the Scheme. For Class D officers the minimum retirement age is 60 and the maximum retirement age is 65. Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority, who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children). For Class A non new entrants as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004, the minimum retirement age is 60 and the maximum retirement age is 65. For Class A new entrants as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004 the minimum retirement age is 65 with no maximum retirement age. Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority for the first time on or after 1 January 2013 are assigned to Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme & Other Provisions) Act 2012. Therefore, the conditions of employment regarding retirement age and superannuation shall be as follows: The minimum retirement age is 66 in line with State Pension contributory age. This will increase to 67 in 2021 & 68 in 2028. Scheme members must retire at age 70. You are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution. You are required in respect of superannuation to contribute at the rate of 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children) plus 3% of pensionable pay. The employment is subject to a probationary period of one year and will be terminable by the giving of one week s notice by either side during that period. After the employment has been confirmed, it will be terminable by the giving of the required notice by either side under the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973. 2. The initial wage is 626.16 basic per week on recruitment, rising by annual increments (subject to satisfactory service) to 663.18 basic per week. 3. Hours of Duty: You will be required to work 45 hours per week, from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily to include 1 hour for lunch. The hours consist as follows: Basic 39 hours per week Overtime payable for extra 6 hours worked per week Gates to be opened and closed for RSA on Saturdays by written request, porter to be paid 2 hours overtime and money recouped from RSA. The Council reserves the right to adjust these hours at any stage and flexibility will be required regarding working outside normal hours if necessary to facilitate public meetings or functions. 4. Uniform: The Porter shall be suitably professionally dressed when on duty or wear a Uniform when on duty, if supplied. 5. Notice of intention to take leave must be given to the Line Manager or other such person as may be determined from time to time, at least two weeks before proposed holidays. Job File: 18/040 Page 2

6. Each Employee must comply with Cork County Council Health and Safety Policies and with the Safety Statement at each place of work and with directives. 7. The holder of the post shall reside in the district in which his/her duties are to be performed or within a reasonable distance thereof, at a location acceptable to the Local Authority. 8. The successful candidate will be based within the confines of Cork County Council Offices Annabella. 9. The successful candidate must co-operate fully with the introduction of new technology. 10. The Council will provide the Porter with a mobile phone. 11. The successful candidate will be on call and will be required attend call outs for alarms at night and weekends. 12. The successful candidate will be required to work on his/her own initiative and also in a team environment. DUTIES PORTER ANNABELLA OFFICES 1. The caretaker/porter must comply with Cork County Council s Health and Safety Policies and with the Safety Statement at each place of work and with directives. The caretaker/porter will maintain/update safety files. 2. The buildings to be opened and closed at the directed times (normally 8.00am to 6.00pm). All exit doors must be secured, all lights extinguished and intruder alarm system to be set before closing at night. The caretaker/porter must open and close gates. 3. Regular inspection and maintenance checks, as directed to be made on the lift and electrical, plumbing and heating systems. To regulate the heating as required and to monitor oil/gas usage and order oil/gas when necessary. To carry our various checklists with regard to light maintenance, Health and Safety, Accessibility, Cleaning, Security, etc as required. 4. Manage and maintain the Boilers and Boiler house (including recording and maintaining data for health and safety file). 5. Manage and maintain all electrical installations (including recording checks, ensuring inspections by electrician i.e PAT testing etc. and maintain data for health and safety file). 6. Maintain chemical register. 7. Manage and maintain all water services 8. To liaise with and assist any contractor for maintenance and repair work and ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and requirements. Job File: 18/040 Page 3

9. The toilets and Canteen to be cleaned and disinfected daily and an adequate supply of all necessary materials to be maintained through requisition from the receptionist or any other appropriate officer in their absence. A log must be kept of cleaning times. Remove waste paper etc. from bins. 10. Responsibility for the recycling area in the corridor to the canteen, 11. The caretaker/porter must operate Canteen. 12. All offices at Annabella are to be tidied daily. Furniture to be dusted daily and polished weekly waste paper baskets to be emptied daily. 13. To vacuum the floors in all rooms, corridors, stairs and reception area as directed, but at least twice weekly. Dishwasher to be set and emptied daily and/or as required. Canteens to be cleaned after tea breaks and lunch breaks. 14. Carry out routine maintenance, including small painting jobs, replacing bulbs, etc. where appropriate. 15. Keep glass on relevant doors and windows clean. 16. The monitoring of public activity in relation to the facilities of the building and its surrounding grounds, including monitoring CCTV cameras as required. Ensure no unauthorised persons are allowed into offices or grounds 17. The grounds, including the side garden and planted areas, to be maintained in a clean and tidy condition and weeded regularly. Bedding plants etc to be planted as required and window boxes to be watered and weeded as required. 18. To arrange facilities, including accommodation, seating, projector etc, for routine and special meetings, hearings and any other events occurring from time to time, including night functions if necessary. 19. Raise the required flags as appropriate for meetings. 20. Preparation of teas/refreshments as required for meetings or training sessions. 21. To respond to Garda Siochana requests, alarm calls, etc occurring outside normal working hours, if required. 22. Shopping for supplies for tea breaks/ meetings. 23. Local post is to be delivered and collected daily and as required. Post to be opened and distributed internally if required. Post to be franked and taken to the Post Office daily, no earlier than 4.30pm. 24. Notice of intention to take leave to be given to the Senior Executive Officer or other such person as may be determined from time to time, at least one week before proposed holidays. 25. General housekeeping assistance duties. Materials for recycling and shredded paper to be taken to the recycling centre as required. 26. Monitor public areas to ensure order and compliance by patrons with rules and Council Policies. Dealing personally with such issues and infringements as appropriate or referring more serious issues to the appropriate supervisor. 27. Setting/unsetting of security and fire alarm systems and access control duties and assisting with fire drills. To act as an evacuation steward in the event of the building being evacuated. 28. Manage and maintain all fire fighting equipment (including recording checks, arranging inspection and maintaining data for health and safety file). 29. Undergo any training as required by Supervisor including First Aid and Defibrillator use. 30. Telephone and reception duties as required. 31. Receive Stores/deliveries for the offices 32. Car parking duties when required. 33. Reporting any building and service defects to the Engineer. 34. Facilitate office moves, i.e. computers, filing cabinets, etc. including moving items to Newberry as required. 35. Fire exit to be monitored daily and ensured that it is clear of obstructions. 36. Liaise with Gardai and Fire Brigade as required. 37. Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time or any amendment to any of the duties listed above. 38.
