Brief Overview of CAS Changes CAS VEE REQUIREMENTS Economics Corporate Finance CAS NEW EXAM S (Statistics and Probabilistic Models) is based on PSTAT 160A (Poisson models, intro), 160B or 173 (Compound Poisson, etc.) PSTAT 120BC (Mathematical statistics) PSTAT 126, 127 (regression, linear and GLMs) PSTAT 174 (Time Series) PSTAT 172A (small part on life contingencies) Due to the change in CAS exams, students pursuing CAS track will be able to substitute PSTAT 160B for PSTAT 172B
Brief Overview of SOA VEE Changes Current VEE Requirements Economics Corporate Finance Applied Statistics Expected Changes in VEE areas (effective summer 2018) Economics Accounting and Finance Mathematical Statistics Math Stat VEE will require B- or better in PSTAT 120B, possibly 120C Take Econ 3A to prepare for Accounting and Finance VEE Applied Statistics VEE will be replaced by the Applied Statistics Exam, based on time series (174/274), regression (126, 127), and data mining (131/231)
Brief Overview of SOA Exam Changes SUMMER 2017 Some of the exam FM material will be moved to MFE allowing us to cover FM in on course PSTAT 171. Some of the stochastic calculus material will be moved from exam MFE to the fellowship exams. SUMMER 2018 Applied Statistics VEE will be replaced by the Mathematical Statistics VEE. Account and Finance VEE will replace Corporate Finance VEE. A new exam and a project in predictive analytics is planned to include regression, time series and some data mining. UC Actuarial Association (UCAA) UCAA is a new student group established in Fall 2016 to create a network connecting actuarial students and alumni from across all UC campuses. The mission of UCAA is to promote student interest in the actuarial career; to encourage the academic, social, and professional development of its members; and to provide interaction through online media and jointly hosted events. Officer Openings Journalist Takes photographs at every event, uploads them to flickr within 2 days of the event, and shares the link Creates quarterly newsletters (The Actuarial Account) Observes meetings and member interaction in order to offer feedback to improve member retention. Attends weekly officer meeting (missing max 1 meeting each quarter), attends every event (missing max 5 per year) Hosts at least one social event Winter Quarter Secretary Updates all pages of the website to reflect current information. Records minutes during officer meetings and posts to club website. Creates a summary of the content presented at every club event and posts to club website and club FB.
