contracted in 2012 and 11 dams are under procurement process); (b) increasing the economic life through sedimentation mitigation (watershed management and flushing); and (c) reducing the risk of project dams through strengthening activities (remedial works, basic dam safety facilities, monitoring instruments), and operation and maintenance improvement (O&M Plans for 21 dams, Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for 16 dams, and capacity building and support to implement the regulations on dam safety management including introducing dam portfolio management practice for 34 dams, regular inspection and safety monitoring, risk assessment and so on). Special studies of high-risk dams are completed or at various stages of planning or development. Budget allocation for O&M of dam under the project has been increased indicating government's commitment to better manage their dams.the project is expected to deliver much more substantial benefits as many of the ongoing contracts are completed in the coming months.
