Macro Economic Analysis Country & Sector Sri Lankan Economy Moderate economic growth of 3.7% up to Q3 2017 Agriculture sector affected by adverse weather conditions Increase in export earnings as well as import expenditure resulting in a further widening of the trade deficit USD 8,591 mn up to 11 months in 2017 vs. USD 7,916 mn in the same period 2016 1.9% depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee against the US Dollar up to end December 2017 Positive developments recorded in the fiscal sector Credit to the private sector decelerated in November 2017 as well (November 15.4%, October 16.2%) Headline inflation of 7.1% and core inflation of 4.3% in December 2017.
