The role of the Responsible Officer As part of the Foreign Financial Institution (FFI) Agreement, a Responsible Officer (RO) must be appointed who will sign the FFI Agreement, oversee the compliance program, and periodically certify compliance to the IRS. The compliance program established must include policies, procedures and processes sufficient for the FFI to satisfy all requirements of its FFI Agreement. The RO will periodically review compliance with the requirements of the FFI Agreement, as well as the sufficiency of the established compliance program, throughout each certification period.

Launch of Deloitte Responsible Officer school During this learning series, you will gain an understanding of the importance of the RO role and the obligations for this position. Specialists from Deloitte s FATCA team will discuss requirements and current industry approaches. This school will provide each attendee with a platform to discuss issues that your organisation is facing, to network with your peers and share experiences as you work to address the regulatory requirements for your organisation. This three half day school is scheduled throughout 2014 and into 2015. The first session will be held on 7 May at the Hotel Schweizerhof near the main train station in Berne. An optional technical FATCA training is scheduled on the morning of the first school session. This session is designed to provide you with an understanding of the requirements under the FFI Agreement and the intergovernmental agreement between Switzerland and the U.S., which builds the foundation of a successful RO.
