As the day progressed the scene changed for the worst with the S&P 500 erasing a gain of 0.6 percent after data showed U.S. crude supplies rose to a three-decade high which sent West Texas Intermediate crude below $45 a barrel, the S&P fell 1.35 percent to close at 2,002.16. Denbury Resources Inc. and Nabors Industries Ltd. plunged more than 8 percent, with energy shares accounting for the five biggest drops in the S&P 500. The Dow Jones fell 1.13 percent to close on 17,191.37, the Nasdaq composite could not escape the sell off and went down 0.93 percent to end on 4,638. Chevron was the biggest loser on the Dow falling 4.2 percent, followed by Microsoft, off the back of a huge slump the previous day, from a trading statement that missed forecasts. The Tech giant fell a further 3.4 percent. Apple jumped 7.3 percent after reporting a 30 percent advance in quarterly revenue and a 38 percent surge in net income to a record $18 billion. Boeing climbed 5.4 percent after posting profit that beat analysts estimates. Yahoo! Inc. advanced 0.9 percent after announcing a spinoff of its stake in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. AT&T Inc., the second-largest U.S. wireless carrier, climbed 0.4 percent after topping profit and sales estimates. 1

US ECONOMY The US is in full swing with its earnings season, over seventy percent of companies which have reported thus far have beat expectations. The Federal Open Market Committee stuck to its vow to be "patient" on hiking interest rates and raised its view of the economy and labor market, even as the central bank anticipates a further decline in inflation. EUROPEAN AND ASIAN EQUITIES Athens' ATG share index was down 9.2 percent and the Greek banking index skidded 27 percent, hitting a record low, as investors feared the new government's anti-austerity stance would make negotiations with the euro zone on a new aid deal difficult and jeopardise liquidity, traders said. The ATG has now lost 15.4 percent since the start of the week while the banking index has plummeted 98.7 percent since late 2009, before Europe's sovereign debt crisis started. U.K. stocks rose for the ninth day in ten, with the FTSE 100 Index heading for its biggest monthly gain in almost a year. The FTSE 100 advanced 14.33 points, or 0.2 percent, to 6,825.94 at the close of trading in London, Anglo American Plc rose 2.3 percent after reporting better-than-forecast annual output figures. The more concentrated Euro Stoxx 50 fell 0.40 percent to 3,358.96. Asian indices are mixed, Japan s Nikkei is up 0.15 percent, Tokyo s TOPIX closed 0.25 percent in the green, Hong Kong s Hang Seng was also up 0.22 percent. The biggest movement on the day came from China s Shanghai Index where the index fell 1.41 percent, financials were among the hardest-hit, following reports from state media Xinhua that the mainland's stock regulator will inspect the stock margin trading business of 46 companies. This morning Asian markets are in the red following the US, the Shanghai is down 2 percent and the Hang Seng has fallen 1.27 percent. The Australian ASX 200 is the only market in the green but only just, up 0.12 percent, BHP Billiton is down 0.52 percent and in Asia Tencent is in the red having shed 1.4 percent today. 2

The Swiss 10 year bond is yielding 0.08 percent, German 10 year is at 0.35 percent and the British 10 year is at 1.45 percent. The South African R186 is unchanged at 7.19 percent yield.
