Database on Indian Economy (DBIE) The Reserve Bank of India has a long history of compiling and disseminating large volume of macro-economic and financial sector data for researchers, market participants and various other stakeholders. In addition to traditional channels such as data publications, reports, press releases etc., the Bank has also set up a public website viz., Database on the Indian Economy (DBIE) for data dissemination. The DBIE can be accessed through web browsers using the URL, https://dbie. rbi.org.in One of the main purposes of DBIE is to provide time series data on aggregates in a flexible and reusable format for analytical inputs on policy matters and for research and analysis purposes. Subject area and periodicity wise time series data pertaining to Indian economy are presented in the DBIE. This site also contains the SAARCFINANCE database. DBIE data can be downloaded and saved as excel files for further processing and analysis. Brief accounts of various datasets disseminated through the DBIE are presented below. Quarterly estimates of GDP at factor cost/gross value added at basic price (at constant prices/current prices) and GDP at market prices (at constant prices/current prices) are available from 1996-97: Q1. Annual data on macroeconomic aggregates (at constant prices/current prices), components of GVA at basic price/components of GDP (at market prices); private final consumption expenditure (at constant prices/current prices); sector-wise domestic savings (at current prices); sector-wise gross/net capital formation and important growth rates and ratios are available from 1951. Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) at factor cost (at constant prices/current prices), Per capita NSDP at factor cost (at constant prices/current prices) are available from 1981. Other important indicators of national income like indirect taxes and subsidies, per capita national/disposable income, etc. are also available annually. Agriculture The primary source of agriculture data is the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The agriculture related major variables viz. production and area under cultivation of foodgrains and major commercial crops are available from 1950-51. State-wise production of major foodgrains/non-foodgrains crops, yield per hectare and Index numbers of agriculture production etc. are also available since 1951. Index numbers of area, production and foodgrains/nonfoodgrains yields in India are available from 1950. Minimum support price for foodgrains and non-foodgrains according to crop year is available from 1976. Pattern of land use and other agriculture inputs are also available from 1951. Data on Public Distribution System (PDS) i.e. procurement, off-take and stock is available from 1973. Industrial Statistics The primary source of industrial production data is CSO, MoSPI. Monthly data on index of industrial production (IIP)-General Index, Sectorwise (mining & quarrying, electricity and manufacturing) and, use-based (basic goods, capital goods, intermediate goods, consumer durable/non-durable goods) indices are available from April 1994. Index numbers of major industry groups in manufacturing sector are available from March 1995. Index numbers of core industries along with growth are available from 1995. Data on Annual Survey of Industries with

principal characteristics like fixed capital, working capital, outstanding loans, number of workers etc. are available from 1990. Status of implementation of central sector projects, sector-wise cost overrun of delayed central sector projects and; annual data (monthly average) on IIP and production of select industries are available from 1982. Annual data series on performance of SSI sector, production and imports of crude oil and petroleum products are also available in DBIE. Prices & Wages The movement in price levels is most important variable for any macroeconomic analysis. Data on annual WPI (All Commodities) indices/ inflation (average of months) along with major commodity groups are available in DBIE from 1972. Data on WPI weekly (now discontinued) till 14-Jan-2012, monthly indices for all commodities are available from April, 1994. Consumer Price Indices Industrial Worker (CPI-IW) annual (average of all months)/monthly data along with major subgroups are available from 1969. Data for other CPI viz. Agricultural Labourers, Rural Labourers, Urban Non-manual Employees are available from 1968. All India CPI indices for Rural, Urban and Combined along with State-wise indices are available from 2011. All the price related statistics are collected from respective Government Ministries/source agencies. Annual average price of Gold and Silver in domestic and foreign markets are available from 1970-71. Monthly Average Prices of Gold and Silver are available from 1990. Average daily wage rates in rural India (sourced from Labour Bureau, GoI) for men are also available on a monthly basis since 1998. Further, quarterly data on House Price Index is available since 2010-11. Corporate Sector Main sources for corporate sector statistics are Annual Reports and Accounts of Companies i.e. Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Accounts. Quarterly data on Performance of Listed Non-Government Non-Financial Companies according to sectors, size of paid-up-capital, size of sales and industry wise are available from 2015. Financial Sector Banking Statistics - Assets & Liabilities Data are available on daily/fortnightly/ monthly/quarterly and yearly basis for various banking parameters. Cash balances of Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) maintained with RBI are available on daily basis from 2006. Select aggregates of SCBs viz. demand and time deposits, bank credit, investments, borrowing from RBI, cash in hands, balances with RBI etc. (based on Section 42 form A/B) are available on a fortnightly basis from 1997 onwards. Quarterly abridged balance sheet (bank-group wise) is available from 1997. Bank-wise/Bank groupwise balance sheet information as well as performance indicators relating to the SCBs (excluding RRBs) for important parameters are available from 2005. Other disaggregated annual data of SCBs on insured deposits, investments, instrument-wise derivatives, are also available in DBIE. Data on International Banking Statistics of India and liabilities and assets of Indian SCBs in foreign countries are also available. Data related to other financial institution viz. PACS, SCARDBs and PCARDBs for select balance sheet indicators are available on annual basis. Detail data on Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks covering liabilities and assets, investments, select performance

parameter etc. are given under Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks Outlook. Branch Banking Statistics Statistics on important variables viz. number of banks, newly opened branches, closed branches, functioning branches and offices etc. based on Master office File (MoF system) categorised according to states, region, district, bank-group and population group are available on a quarterly basis. Bank Performance Indicators Data on banks' performance based on the annual statements covering income, expenditure, profitability and various ratios such as business per employee, CRAR and return on assets etc., are available in DBIE. Bank-wise and bank group-wise gross NPAs, Gross advances, and gross NPA ratio of SCBs are also available. Sectoral Banking Statistics DBIE contains a large amount of data on banking sector with respect to different dimensions like sectors, industry, district, state, region, bank group, population group etc., of SCBs. Account-wise annual data captured through BSR-1&2 returns containing data on maturitywise deposit and distribution of credit (based on place of sanction/utilization, occupation-wise, population group-wise (rural, semi-urban, urban, metropolitan, etc.), etc. are available. The grouped data into foreign banks, private sector banks, nationalised banks, SBI and associate Banks, etc. is also available in DBIE. Data on credit and deposit with respect to bank, district, state, population group are available on a yearly basis since 1970. Monthly sectoral deployment of bank credit (from 2007) and outstanding advances of SCBs to exporters, statement on Kisan Credit Card scheme is available in DBIE. Quarterly BSR1 data is now available from March, 2014. Financial Institutions In this sector, data on net resources mobilized by mutual funds, bonds issued by public sector undertakings, disbursements by NHB under its refinance schemes; financial assistance sanctioned and disbursed by all financial institutions; industrial refinance by RBI, investments by LIC are available for varied frequencies. Liabilities and Assets of major financial institution viz. EXIM Bank, IFCI, NABARD, NHB, SFCs, SIDBI, HDFC, are also available. Liabilities and assets of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) covering insured deposits, credit guarantee fund, deposit insurance fund, general fund is also available. Key Rates Major monetary policy rates and reserve requirements viz. Bank Rate, Repo, Reverse Repo & MSF rates, cash reserve ratio (CRR) & Statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) are chronologically available in DBIE. Different indicative rates viz. saving deposit rates, deposit rates for various maturities [short-term (<1 year), medium term (1-3 year) and long term (> 3 years)], base rate and MCLR are available in DBIE for major SCBs. Monetary Statistics Data series on Reserve Money (M0), M1, M2 and M3 along with components and sources are available for various frequencies and time period. Important variables in monetary statistics viz. notes in circulation, circulation of rupee/small coins, cash in hand with banks, public s demand/ term deposits with commercial banks/reserve Bank, bankers' deposits with RBI, and credit to Government/commercial sector by banks/rbi, banking sector s investment

in Government securities, net foreign exchange assets of the banking sector, and net non-monetary liabilities of banks/rbi are available in DBIE. Data on new monetary aggregates (NM1 to NM3) and Liquidity aggregates (L1 to L3) and their components like aggregate deposits of residence, call/term funding from financial institutions, domestic credit, capital account etc. are available for various frequencies and time period. Select monetary ratios as compared to GDP/GVA and other monetary aggregates are available on annual basis. RBI's Balance Sheet comprising detailed assets and liabilities position are available on a weekly basis from August, 2004. Non-Banking Financial Companies Aggregate deposits of non-banking financial companies (NBFC) covering regulated deposits and exempted deposits are available from 1998. Consolidated balance sheet and financial performance of NBFCs-D and NBFCs- ND are available from 2013. Payment Systems Monthly as well as annual aggregated data on clearing and settlement systems, retail electronic payment systems, cheque clearances, RTGS, CCIL operated systems viz. Government securities settlement-outright & Repo, Forex settlement, CBLO settlement, ECS credit, ECS debit, electronic funds transfer (EFT), credit card, debit card are available for varied time period. Financial Market Money Market The prevailing interest rates (weighted, minimum and maximum) and turnover in various money markets like Call, CBLO, Market Repo and Repo in corporate bonds are available in DBIE with varied frequency from 2005. Certificates of Deposit (CD), Commercial Paper (CP) data are also available on varied frequencies and time period. A detail money market report comprising data of all the segments of the money market is also available to public. Equity and Corporate Debt Market Data on BSE SENSEX (open high & low), BSE 100, BSE 500, Bankex, NSE S&P CNX Nifty and other sector specific stock exchange (BSE/NSE) indices are available on daily basis. Monthly data on Average Price/Earning/Book value Ratio of BSE Sensitive Index; market capitalisation and monthly turnover -BSE, NSE; monthly and annual averages of BSE 100, BSE sensitive index, S&P CNX Nifty are available for varied time period. Amount raised through new capital issues (equity as well as bonds/debentures) by companies, euro issues, private placements and net resources mobilized by select mutual funds (annual since 1993-94) are also available in DBIE. Forex Market Daily exchange rate of the Indian rupee against four major currencies viz. USD, Euro, GBP, and Japanese Yen, daily forward premia (inter-bank), daily interbank forex rates (USD vis-a-vis INR) are available for various period. Monthly exchange rate of the Indian rupee vis-a-vis the SDR, US Dollar, Pound Sterling (high and low), monthly average and end-month rates; forward premia (inter-bank) (monthly average); sale/purchase of US dollar by the RBI and turnover in foreign exchange market are available. Government Securities Market

Data on G-Sec primary market in respect of T-Bills for 91 days (since June 1993), 182 days (since June 2005) and 364 days (since April 1998) are available in DBIE. Details of Central Government market borrowings for dated securities are available from 1995. State Governments market borrowings data are also available from 2009. G-Sec secondary market data viz. G-Sec turnover (since April 1998), Yields on outright transactions in dated securities and T-Bills (since April 1997), Ownership pattern of Central, State Governments and T-Bills securities (annual since 1991), open market operation (monthly since April 1995), month-end average yield on SGL transactions in Central Government securities according to residual maturity since (April 1996), weighted average yields and turnover in outright/repo transactions in Central Government, State governments and T-Bills securities and outstanding list of all SLR eligible securities are available. External Sector External Debt Quarterly data on total external debt (in INR as well as in USD) with further classification into long-term as well as short-term debt, concessional debt, and other debt indicators viz. government borrowing, commercial borrowing, NRI deposit, export credit, etc. are available from 1999. Key external debt indicators such as debt service ratio, ratio of short term debt to total debt, ratio of concessional debt to total debt, debt stock to GDP are also available. Annual data on external debt with detailed classification is available since 1991. External Sector Indices Real effective exchange rate (REER) and nominal effective exchange rate (NEER) for 36-currency and 6-currency exports/trade based weights are available on monthly and annual frequencies since January, 1975. Annual average exchange rates for four major currencies are available since 1971 onwards. Index numbers of Imports and Exports on quantum and unit value, index number of term of foreign trade are also available in DBIE. Forex Reserves Total foreign exchange reserves in the form of foreign currency assets, IMF reserve tranch position, SDRs and gold at weekly/monthly/annual frequencies are available in DBIE. The annual data is available in DBIE since 1951 while the monthly data are available from April 1990 onwards. The weekly data is available since April 2001. International Finance Annual and monthly data on FDI and Portfolio investments (in INR and USD), Month-end positions of NRI Deposits, outward remittance by resident individuals are available for various time period. Quarterly data series on various items under International Investment Positions is available from 2006 onwards. Yearly data on foreign liabilities and assets for mutual fund and assets management companies-country wise is available since 2009. Inflow/out flow under various NRI deposit schemes are available for various time period. International Trade Total export/imports, total trade balance, oil/non-oil imports (USD and Rupees), principal commodity-wise export and import data is also available at monthly and annual frequency from 1997. Country-wise, commodities-wise export/import detailed data are available since 1988. Data series on various components of BoP such as current account balance, merchandise trade, transfers, capital account, financial account, foreign investment in India

(FDI as well as portfolio investment), external commercial borrowings (ECB), external assistance, short-term trade credits, and overall balance of payments are available from 1991. Historical data on key components of BoP is available since 1950. Data series on key Balance of Payments Indicators such as Current Account to GDP Ratio, Import cover of Reserves, Ratio of Exports to GDP etc., are available since 1971. Invisibles by category of transactions are available from 1951. BoP data as per BPM6 are available from 2011 onwards. Public Finance Central Government & State Government Finance Important data sets available in this sector viz. central government receiptsmajor components, centre's gross fiscal deficit and its financing, financing of public sector plan, gross capital formation from budgetary resources of the Central Government, key deficit indicators of the Central Government, major heads of capital receipts of the central government, major heads of developmental and non-developmental expenditure of the Central Government, major heads of expenditure of the Central Government, outstanding liabilities of Central Government, public sector plan outlay are available with annual frequencies. State Governments finances data viz. expenditure pattern of the state governments, outstanding liabilities, pattern of major capital receipts, gross fiscal deficit and it s financing and key deficit indicators are available in DBIE. Combined data for Central and State Governments viz. deficit and combined liabilities, developmental and nondevelopmental expenditure, direct and indirect tax revenues, market borrowings, receipts and disbursements are available in DBIE. Select fiscal indicators of the Central Government, State Governments (as percentage to GDP) and Small Savings data are also available. Socio-economic Indicators Data on employment situation in India and population below poverty line based on Quinquennial surveys of NSSO are available from 1983. SAARCFINANCE Database (SFDB) The SAARCFINANCE Database of SAARC countries has been developed using DBIE infrastructure which covers about 150 variables broadly pertains to real sector, money and banking, public finance, external sector, socio economic indicators along with rates and ratios with various frequency viz., annual, quarterly and monthly for the period from 2001 to 2016. A dedicated SFDB page has been developed and its link has been provided on Home page of DBIE.
