Delhi girl Tina Dabi who graduated from Lady Shri Ram College has topped the examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission. Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan from Jammu and Kashmir has bagged the second position while Delhi's Jasmeet Singh Sandhu has got the third. A total of 1078 candidates have cleared. In total, 1,078 candidates have cleared the toughest and most prestigious examination in India. They have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative
Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Central Services, Group 'A' and Group 'B'. Out of these, 499 belong to general category, 314 from other backward classes, 176 from scheduled castes and 89 from scheduled tribes. There are 180 vacancies in IAS, 45 in IFS, 150 in IPS, 728 in Central Services Group 'A' and 61 in Group 'B' Service, including 46 vacancies for physically challenged people. In accordance with Rule 16 (4) & (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules 2015, the commission is maintaining a reserve list of 172 candidates. The results were based on the written examination held in December 2015 and personality test interviews conducted from March to May 2016. 2 Pak opposes India and G4 allies pitch for UNSC permanent membership Pakistan has opposed the bid by India and its G4 allies for permanent seats in the UN Security Council, saying their demand was based on poor logic and reflected self-serving national ambitions of a few countries. Pakistan's envoy to the UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, at the informal meeting of the General Assembly on Inter- Governmental Negotiations on Security Council reform, said the objective of the Council's expansion should be to respond to the concerns and aspirations of all, not just a few.
India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, speaking on behalf of the G4 nations -- Brazil, Germany, India and Japan -- had said at the meeting that the problem of imbalance of influence in the Council cannot be corrected if only non-permanent members are added to the powerful UN body. 3 Rise in foreign terrorist fighters great threat to world peace: India to UN India has called for strengthening international cooperation in fighting terrorism. Making a statement at the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre meeting, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said here last evening that as a victim of terrorism for the past several decades, India was cognizant of the nature of this menace. He pointed out to the rise in the number of Foreign Terrorist Fighters and said it posed increasing threats and challenges and needed to be effectively countered. He also said the financing of terrorism was crucial in the fight against terrorism. He expressed appreciation of the efforts of the UNCCT in Central Asia and Central and Southern Africa through support of regional counter-terrorism strategies, border management, and the projects on youth skill development and employment facilitation in South Asia.
4 India signs revised tax treaty with Mauritius In a bid to prevent "abuse" of the tax avoidance treaty, India today signed with Mauritius an amendment to the pact to get rights to tax capital gains on shares of Indian company sold after April 1, 2017. With the signing of the amendment to the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention (DTAC) with Mauritius, sale of shares of an Indian resident company will be taxed at 50 per cent of the applicable rate between April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2019. Full capital gains tax will apply from April 1, 2019. A finance ministry statement said, the Protocol will tackle the long pending issues of treaty abuse and round tripping of funds attributed to the India-Mauritius treaty, curb revenue loss, prevent double non-taxation, streamline the flow of investment and stimulate the flow of exchange of information between India and Mauritius. India had in 1983 signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty with the island nation. And today an amendment to DTAC was signed in a bid to ensure that firms in Mauritius that invest in India are not just 'shell' companies who could earlier avoid paying capital gains tax in India. Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that the treaty amendment "brings about a certainty in taxation matters for foreign investors.
5 Centre released Rs 12,000 crore to drought-hit states under MGNREGA for April-June The Centre today said it has released Rs 12,000 crore to the States under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Act,MGNREGA in the rural areas to mitigate the impact of prevailing drought situation. Intervening in a discussion on the drought situation in the country, Rural Development Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh said in the Lok Sabha that the amount has been released for the months of April to June to the drought hit states for creating jobs under MGNREGA. The Minister said, currently 313 District of the country are facing drought like situation and 24 crore of the population in the areas are affected. He said, the government is also implementing a World Bank assisted Neeranchal National Watershed Project at a cost of over two thousand crore rupee to promote water conservation in the country.mr Singh said, the government has taken several steps to regenerate the traditional water bodies for water conservation.
The Minister also informed the House that an additional five hundred sixty four crore rupees have also been released to affected States.He said, the current year's budget higher allocation of fund has been made for MGNREGA and it is 6000 core rupees more than the previous year of 37 thousand crore rupees. During Minister's intervention, the Congress members who were on a dharna in the well of the House started sloganeering. The Minister continued his speech amidst the din. Earlier, participating in the debate,aparupa Poddar of TMC demanded release of funds from the National Disaster Response Force to the West Bengal to mitigate the problems faced by farmers.chandrakant Khaire of Shiv Sena demanded the government to waive off the farmers loan. He also demanded that the compensation paid to the kin of farmers committing suicide should be increased from from one lakh to five lakh rupees. Bhartruhari Mahtab of BJD also demanded the release of required funds to Odisha in view of the drought like situation in the State. He said, the interlinking of rivers should be carried out within the State as water is a state subject while suggesting that there is a need to have a proper water plan. A P Jithender Reddy of TRS demanded the release of rest of the funds for Telangana to mitigate the impact of drought. 6 Parliament passes bill on potable alcohol
Parliament today gave its seal of approval to the Industries (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2015 with the Lok Sabha adopting the certain amendments made by the Rajya Sabha. The Bill seeks to transfer from the Centre to states the control over industries engaged in the production of potable alcohol. It seeks to amend a schedule to exclude production of alcohol for potable purposes from the ambit of the Act. According to the Bill, the central government would continue to be responsible for formulating policy and regulating foreign collaboration for all products of fermentation industries, including industrial and potable alcohol. 7 Pan-India e-auction for tea launched In Kolkata, the Tea Board of India today launched pan-india e-auctions of tea whereby a buyer registered with any one of the seven auction centres can participate in tea auctions across these centres. Hitherto, the rule stated that a buyer registered with a particular auction centre had to buy tea from that same centre only.
Inaugurating the all-india facility, Secretary in the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Rita Teaotia said that the new procedure will facilitate simplified and straightforward auction process and is a step forward. She added that this system and the auction platform will be improved further later on. The pan-india process will help the sellers in tapping more markets than they previously have been able to do. Chairman of the Board, Santosh Sarangi said, the first such auction will be held in three-four weeks. Official of the Board have said that around 540 million kg of tea is expected to be auctioned under the new process. However, local- and region-based auctions of tea will also continue. 8 US President Obama to make historic first presidential visit to Hiroshima US President Barack Obama is to visit Hiroshima this month - the first serving President to travel to the Japanese city, which was hit by a US nuclear attack in 1945. The visit will be part of an Asian trip that will also take in Vietnam. The Hiroshima bombing on 6 August 1945 killed 140,000 people. Along with a second bombing on Nagasaki - it is credited with ending World War Two.

A statement from Mr Obama's press secretary read the President will make an historic visit to Hiroshima with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to highlight his continued commitment to pursuing peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons. The President's communications adviser, Ben Rhodes, said Mr Obama would not revisit the use of the atomic bomb in World War Two but would "offer a forward-looking vision focused on the shared future. Mr Obama will also take part in the G7 summit in Japan's Ise-Shima peninsula.
