OCTOBER 26-27, 2015 Accounting Basics for Community Financial Institutions Baltimore, MD Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards

Accounting Basics for Community Financial Institutions Looking to freshen up your basic accounting skills? Join FMS top-rated speaker and industry leader, Paul J. Sanchez, CPA, CBA, CFSA for Accounting Basics for Community Financial Institutions, an excellent educational experience for anyone new to the financial services industry, as well as more experienced personnel seeking a refresher. This two-day program will provide an excellent overview of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and how GAAP relates to the activities of a community financial institution. Conducted in a true workshop environment, Paul and attendees are part of a unique, hands-on learning experience. With lively discussions, Paul will address the specifics of accounting policies and procedures, as well as provide a thorough analysis of GAAP financial statements. Paul will offer his insight on a variety of situations and a real life case study chosen to demonstrate how the activities specific to community financial institutions (i.e. funding, lending, investing, trading, fee-based services and support activities) result in GAAP financial statements. Participants will also learn how to properly read the typical GAAP financial statements. Additionally, internal control issues are explored with explanations of requirements set forth in the Federal Deposit Insurance Company Improvement Act of 1991 and the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. Participants will: Develop a better understanding of key accounting fundamentals Review GAAP and its application to financial institutions Learn to read and understand typical depository institution financial statements Focus on unique and often troublesome accounting matters Examine recent trends and issues in financial reporting Examine potential accounting changes and their impact About FMS For over 65 years, the Financial Managers Society s network of members has provided technical education to financial professionals from community financial institutions through conferences, seminars, webinars and publications.
