INVITATION KIEV, JUNE 4-5, 2014 Business Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden in Kiev, invites you to participate in a Swedish Delegation to the Sweden-Ukraine Business Forum, taking place in Kiev June 4-5. The delegation will be headed by the Senior Adviser to the Minister for Trade, Ambassador Mr. Jonas Hafström. Ukraine is currently going through a testing period in its modern history. There are several reasons why the Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden are organizing a business forum in a time when the country is facing difficult challenges and external pressure. First of all we would like to demonstrate Sweden s support by showing that Swedish Business believes in the future of Ukraine and that we are ready to help the people of Ukraine through increased trade. Sweden is already providing political backing as well as support from SIDA, but we all know that foreign investments and increased trade is key for the future of Ukraine. More importantly, we are convinced that Ukraine is a market for the future. Today s situation provides an opportunity for tomorrow for those companies that are ready to invest in Ukraine. The early mover s advantage has rarely been more evident in market so close to Sweden. After years of mismanagement, the present Ukrainian government is currently implementing structural reforms aimed at modernizing the economy and strengthening democratic institutions.. Moreover, the increased financial support from the EU and other international organizations, including the IMF, World Bank, EBRD and EIB, will provide Swedish companies with a wide range of business opportunities. Investments will be directed to areas such as energy efficiency, environmental protection, road infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, healthcare system, financial sector and reform of the judicial system. Provided that Ukraine stays committed to reform, the capital inflow from these support programs is expected to amount to 27 bln USD in the coming years. Ukraine s aspiration is closer economic and political ties with EU. A Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and EU is scheduled to be signed this summer. EU has already unilaterally implemented parts of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, something that will facilitate cross-border movement of goods and services between EU-countries and Ukraine. The overall idea of the Business Forum is to make it easier for Swedish companies to establish or grow their business in Ukraine. We will promote Sweden as an innovative and competitive business partner and highlight Ukraine s market potential in attractive business sectors. The new Ukrainian governmental team will give an update on the structural economic reforms, the impact on running business in Ukraine, and upcoming business opportunities in different sectors of the economy. The panel discussions taking place at the business forum will include international experts and analysts, international financial institutions, Swedish and Ukrainian investors, business leaders and decision makers.
