planned due to cost efficiencies. No doubt there are a lot of unknown events looming around the corner but it s currently all systems go with many of our clients. There has also been an increase in the growth of MGAs and focus from the regulators, as well as a significant uptake in merger and acquisitions by foreign investors seeking to capitalise on the current market conditions. This will continue to increase in the year ahead, due the value of the currency and presence of talented individuals in the UK. Welcome to the IDEX Insurance Salary Guide 2016/17. We have created this year s salary guide drawing on a combination of our own data and information from the UK general insurance market, insights from our respected clients, placed candidates and our specialist consultants extensive industry knowledge. In the wake of Brexit, the UK markets seemed to stall for a short period of time. However, in the months since, we have seen the demand for talent return to pre-brexit levels. One client of ours even stated that, due to the level of the pound, they will be investing in the UK even more than they had Diversity has also been a hot topic during the course of 2016, with many organisations across the country taking part in the new Inclusion at Lloyd s initiative. The impact of this focus on diversity has yet to be felt, but at IDEX we are working closely with our clients to assist them in adapting and improving their company diversity and inclusion recruitment practices, whilst ensuring they continue to attract the very best UK GI talent into their businesses into 2017. I hope that you find this guide informative in your planning for the coming year. If you require further insight or have any feedback on the guide, please contact myself or one of my team of specialist consultants. City & Lloyd s SECTOR SNAPSHOT Salary levels have seen increases in niche disciplines with the demand for organisations to create significant competitive advantage in their specific sectors. Due to a shortage of graduates and trainee talent coming into the sector over the past few years, the results have been felt by many, with a scarcity of individuals with 3 to 6 years experience being available in the market. The issue of bringing fresh talent into the insurance sector is being addressed by many businesses, for example one of our clients is moving to recruit school leavers and investing in long term training programmes, as opposed to focussing solely on recruiting graduates David Carr BSc Econ (Hons) MREC Managing Director Page 4 - City & Lloyd s

Brokers and Underwriters who are attached to revenue also remain in high demand, particularly those who specialise within a niche product area. With the demand for talent high, counter offers have increased dramatically during the year; a clear indicator that companies are working hard to retain key talent. Home Counties SECTOR SNAPSHOT Salaries have remained largely steady over the last 12 months in the Home-Counties. As we saw in 2015, Brokers in particular are still willing to pay attractive packages to fee-generating individuals as drawing them from the London market still remains a challenge. In contrast, non-income producing roles have tighter budgets which has made the potential candidate pools smaller for certain roles and hence the recruitment process slower. West Midlands SECTOR SNAPSHOT The insurance broking market in the West Midlands has been driven by the desire for income growth over the last 12 months. Mergers and acquisitions and also redundancies in the Insurer market have led to a shortage of vacancies. As a result, Insurance qualifications are also more desirable than ever, as well as technical knowledge and relationship building skills. Jeremy Warner Regional Manager Page 14 - West Midlands
