Current Status Mainstreaming DRR in Sustainable Development Planning >> DRR incorporated Infrastructural Development - Construction of Cyclone Shelters and Hillocks - Upgrading early warning system - Building deep wells and water infrastructure as the preventative measures against El Nino 4

Cyclone Shelters in Disaster Prone Areas 5

Water Infrastructure 6

Improvement of Early Warning System 7

Current Status Mainstreaming DRR in Sustainable Development Planning >> Non-Structural Measures - Developing policies, procedures and financial rules regarding disaster management activities - Mobilizing the awareness of all stakeholders in mainstreaming DRR into development planning and implementation - Capacity building of Development Planners to increase awareness on DRR - Developing National Community Resilience Framework in incorporating DRR into multi-sectors 8

Disaster Management Law To mainstream DRR in development projects MAPDRR Myanmar Investment law Current Status Mainstreaming DRR in Sustainable Development Planning Provide to spend on prevention of environment and Social Impact Risk insurance from Myanmar Insurance Encourage farmers to purchase risk insurance Social safety net under National Strategy for Social Protection Presidential Reserve Fund (Both emergency and risk reduction) DM Fund ( Both emergency and preparedness and risk reduction)

National Mainstreaming DRR into Development strategy Integration of DRR and CCA into Township development plan ( Township development Committees) Community participation ( e.g community forest program, youth volunteers, CBOs ) Collaboration with INGOs, LNGOs, CSOs

Efforts to Mainstream DRR in Sustainable Development Planning The EC-funded UNISDR programme Building Capacity for Increased Public Investment in Integrated Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), aims to develop national capacity to incorporate CCA and DRR into public investment and planning systems. In order to assist countries in enhancing their capacities in risk sensitive investment planning, UNISDR has initiated a programme to support countries in estimating their disaster risks and optimize their investment plans to tackle these risks. This programme started in early 2014. Based on need, interest and willingness of countries, six countries (Lao, Cambodia, Myanmar, Srilanka, Maldives and Mongolia) are participating in this initiative. In order to engage these countries a step-by-step (divided in to components) approach was taken which involved a series of workshops at the regional level.

Efforts to Mainstream DRR in Sustainable Development Planning This programme mainly focuses on four components and will be implemented by the joint cooperation of Relief and Resettlement Department, Planning Department and CSO: Component 1: The development of national disaster loss databases that will generate the necessary information for risk estimation, and will inform public investments in CCA and DRR. Component 2: The initial estimate from the above process will be complemented with an analytical assessment of catastrophic risk (flood, cyclone, landslide, drought and other climate-related hazards, as well as geological origin hazards such as earthquake, volcanic eruptions and tsunami). Component 3: A review of existing investments in climate change adaptation and risk reduction - including the development of mechanisms to track investments - that will pave the way for inclusion of DRR/CCA considerations in the countries investment planning system. Component 4: Broad sharing of the knowledge and information generated in the course of the above process.

Challenges in Mainstreaming DRR in Development Planning - Financing for drr inclusive development interventions - Capacity and technical know-how - Insufficient awareness of the practitioners in the matter of DRR - Political will and law enforcement - Multi-stakeholders engagement

Support Required for Mainstreaming DRR in Sustainable Development - Grants and aids for drr integrated development efforts - Capacity Building and knowledge sharing - Advocacy and trainings for DRR awareness - Financial and technical support from International Community

Thank You!
