The legislation promised security in retirement but has fallen short of is expectations. While millions have benefited from retirement income they have not benefited from security. There are calls to improve ERISA so that seniors have greater security and the legislation lives up to its original promise. This session will review ERISA to date and what might be changed in the future. This session will also review investment guidelines, trustee ethics, and the fiduciary responsibilities of trustees. Trustees are given an enormous amount of responsibility, which is subject to some of the highest standards under the law. But it s not a nine-to-five job. Meetings are the only venue for getting the work done, typically a couple of hours once a month. Some pension boards meet once a quarter. Therefore, it is important that trustees have effective, efficient, well - planned board and committee meetings so they can use their limited time wisely. David Wetzel, senior vice president of the Fund Evaluation Group will lead this discussion on how to best conduct effective meetings.
