Recognized and accepted by relevant market players in Europe and abroad Milestones of the ISCC development Concept Phase Pilot Phase Regular Operations 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 *: Conferences in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Buenos Aires, followed by Sao Paulo, Kiev 2

Certificates and registrations show a strong increase since September 2010 this trend should continue in 2011 o. *: estimate 3

At the end of January 2011, more than 350 companies are registered with ISCC. Approx. four fifths are interfaces in the EU 4

Processing units dominate in registration 6

Until the end of January 2011, 171 ISCC certificates have been issued, most of them for companies in the EU 7

Even more important than the number of certificates is the relative market share as this reflects also the size of the companies Market share ISCC on EU bioethanol production capacity Market share ISCC EU biodiesel production capacity Calculations based on public figures of industry associations. Shares as of January 31, 2011 In addition, biodiesel and ethanol production units in Central and South America and South East Asia are ISCC certified or are registered for certification. 8

Leading certification bodies use the ISCC system Certification bodies recognized by BLE and using the ISCC scheme 10

ine ISCC trainings have been conducted in 2010, more than 250 auditors participated. Training is an important pillar of ISCC s quality policy Trainings conducted Cologne, December 8 to 10 Buenos Aires: ovember 24 to 26 Warsaw: October 26 to 28 Rio de Janeiro: August 24 to 26 Cologne: August 10 to 12 Cologne: May 10 to 12 Planning Basics training in Europe, SE Asia and the Americas in 2011 Update trainings Special trainings (e.g. GHG calculations, land use verification) Jakarta: April 21 to 23 Cologne: March 24 to 26 Berlin: January 27 to 29 11

ISCC certification process easy and straight forward 12

To facilitate audit preparation and execution, ISCC has developed audit procedures for different supply chain elements ISCC audit procedures for: First gathering point Farm/ plantation Conversion units Warehouses and supplier Supplement, replacement and correction On-site clarifications and dispute resolution 13

To support clients, ISCC has developed a tool to create proofs of compliance and csv-files to be submitted to the BLE 14

ISCC has started an integrity programme to ensure that audits are done consistently and each CB applies the ISCC rules the same way Office assessments to check the certification process of a CB Components of the ISCC Integrity Program In this process an integrity assessor examines the ISCC certification process of selected cases based on document review Company assessments to check the certification body s inspection performance In this process an integrity assessor re-inspects a certified company and compares the assessment result with the latest report of the CB 15

Two Technical Committees are established, a third one will be launched soon Technical Committee Implementation of the German Sustainability Ordinances in the framework of the RED Technical Committee ISCC Implementation Latin America Technical Committee Wood Started in May 2010 Started in October 2010 Initial discussions started in autumn 2010 16

Projects for the application of ISCC in other segments of biomass utilization have started Possible Segments for projects Animal feed Raw material (e.g. bioplastics) clothing food Targets of the projects Proof of feasibility Credibility through practical relevance Comparison of different approaches Evaluation with practical measures Development of approaches for harmonization Realization of concepts through pilot project by Rapid Prototyping 17

ISCC is governed by a system of clear rules. Stakeholders are represented in the ISCC e.v. which is open to new members Benefits of ISCC membership ISCC Association e.v. Stakeholder forum Vote in General Assembly, participation in important decisions Possibilty to participate in Technical Committees Reduced rates for the use of the system First hand information about actual developments ISCC System GmbH Day to day operations of the certification scheme Technical support by ISCC System GmbH Clear separation of stakeholder representation and daily operations. Stakeholders are thus discharged from liability for operations 18

The number of ISCC e.v. members is continously growing. It has doubled since the inauguration in January 2010 19

Summary and conclusions Sustainability certification has taken off. ISCC works in practice and is used in the market in Europe and overseas ISCC is a global scheme covering all kind of biomass. It is a one stop shop for companies ISCC is a quality standard: It provides more security as it covers also social sustainability issues at no or marginal additional costs ISCC is easy to handle and based on practical requirements. ISCC is continuously working on improvements After recognition with BLE, ISCC aspires EC recognition. Application has been submitted Extension to other markets (chemical, food, feed) ongoing Harmonisation in the EU market required. Several issues still not clarified (e.g. how to handle missing UTS2 values, definition of waste, residual material, production residues). Has to be done urgently otherwise market players and international trade will suffer Sustainability certification shows impact, e.g.: Farmers start to change their agricultural practices (e.g. better storage and handling of plant protection products, start documentation) Financial institutions request proof of sustainability prior to financing new agricultural projects Companies in other markets follow and start to request proof of sustainability 20
