establishing a new smsf When you and your accountant or financial adviser agree that a SMSF is your preferred strategy, we attend to all aspects of establishing and registering your new superannuation fund including: Arranging for drafting of trust deed by specialist superannuation lawyers Registration of the fund with the Australian Taxation Office, including applications for Tax File Number, Australian Business Number and Regulated Fund Status Establishment of your own private company to act as trustee of the fund if recommended by your adviser Assistance with roll-over of existing superannuation accounts from other funds to your new SMSF Provide secure registered office facilities for your fund and trustee company if required. To establish your own Self Managed Superannuation Fund, complete the New SMSF Application Form at page 9. existing self managed funds If you already have your own SMSF we would be pleased to take over the administration of your fund. We will arrange for a smooth transition of the accounting and permanent records of your fund from your current administrator. smsf health check On taking over your fund administration, we will provide you with a health check assessment of your self managed fund, alerting you to any possible compliance or taxation matters that may require attention. new smsf A once off establishment fee for a new SMSF includes the outlay to lawyers for trust deeds, ATO registration and meeting with you to explain and execute the documents: Fund Establishment Fee: $880.00* trustee company Each fund must have at least two individual trustees or a company can act as the trustee and each member is a director. A company trustee is recommended for robust estate and succession planning and asset protection. Cost of company trustee (if required): $870.00* Total: New SMSF & Trustee Company $1,750.00 existing smsf takeover: No additional charge Take over of your fund from the current administrator, including establishing historic investment registers and member s contribution and tax history. *All prices include GST, legal fees & ASIC registration fees for a company if required. smsf annual administration As trustees of your own SMSF, you are responsible for reporting the results of operations of your fund to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) each year. Our SMSF annual administration service will attend to the preparation of all necessary documentation to satisfy these requirements including: Prepare Financial Statements, audit documents and reconciliations; Prepare the Trustee resolutions and minutes; Prepare the Member s Statements; Prepare and lodge the Self Managed Superannuation Fund Annual Return including supporting work papers and schedules; Manage all Australian Taxation Office (ATO) correspondence; Validate the existence of all fund investments and value them as at 30 June; Assist with reviewing and documenting the fund s Investment Strategy; and Liaise with the fund s independent auditor to enable the audit to be performed. pensions & benefit payments On retirement, or transition to retirement, we assist with the administration and reporting requirements of paying your superannuation benefits to you from your SMSF as either lump sums or pensions. Our comprehensive pension service includes: Establishment and documentation of pension arrangements including tax component calculations, pension payment limits, minutes & Product Disclosure Statements; Annual and pre-financial year end reviews of pension limits and actual pension withdrawals to ensure compliance with pension obligations; Maintaining multiple pension accounts e.g. combination of transition to retirement income streams and contribution (accumulation) accounts; Maintaining pre-existing Complying Life-Time & Market Linked Pensions; and Periodic ATO reporting for fund members under age 60 annual PAYG payment summaries, quarterly activity statement reporting. 6
ongoing administration fees Each Self Managed Superannuation Fund is different, reflecting the investment activities and goals of the members and trustees. Our fees are charged based on the time taken to do the work. The fee you pay reflects your investment activity, your requirements for advice during the year, and whether or not your fund is paying pensions. This is the true nature of self managed super. In a quiet year your fee may be less than in a very active year. We believe this is a fair system for you and for us. Indicative Fees (including GST): Annual Administration We recommend that you budget for annual administration costs of between $3,300 to $5,500 to administer your SMSF each year, plus: Auditor s Fee: $825.00 Actuary s Fee*: $132.00 *only required for pension paying funds Factors affecting the time taken to complete your fund s annual requirements and fees are: The frequency at which you buy/sell investments; Corporate actions where a listed share has a demerger, takeover, buy-back, share split etc; GST registration & Business Activity Statement (BAS) reporting; Complex rental properties; Investments in related trusts & companies; Limited recourse borrowing arrangements; Paying or commencing pensions or lump sums; Exempt income & deduction calculations for pension paying funds; PAYG annual & quarterly pension reporting to ATO (under age 60); Advice on & monitoring of contributions that count towards your contributions caps; and Estate planning & trustee succession advice. 7
Being a trustee gives you the opportunity to actively manage your own superannuation and make your own investment choices, but it also brings responsibilities. All trustees and directors of a corporate trustee are equally responsible for managing the fund and ensuring the fund complies with superannuation and tax laws.
