An Introduction to the AIAS The AIAS is a not-for-profit organisation, limited by guarantee, controlled by a Board of Directors drawn from its membership and operated for the benefit of its membership which comprises practising firms of accountants in Scotland. Following the recognition by a number of independent accountants in the Edinburgh area of the need to provide additional training opportunities, the AIAS was founded in 1989. Training is central to the group's activities, with courses covering a wide variety of topics. The courses provided tend to address areas not covered by other training providers courses, as we seek to react to our members additional requirements. Consequently, each member firm has the opportunity to have a representative on our Training Committee. Typically, our courses run from 4pm to 6pm in venues located in central Edinburgh, although alternative times are arranged to best fit the content of individual courses. Networking The AIAS seeks to provide an informal forum to discuss matters of common interest as well as opportunities to network with other members at courses, seminars and the annual summer outing and AGM. Joining the AIAS Application for membership is open to practising firms of accountants and tax advisors, and new members are always welcome. The Association is funded by an annual levy on member firms which at present is 135 plus VAT per partner with a maximum of 405 plus VAT per firm. Pricing Structure The course pricing structure is outlined in section 6. Further information can be obtained via our website at www.aias.uk.com or contact Mark Macefield (0131 226 5822) 1
