The following are the status notes for two different Schemes for which National Housing Bank (NHB) has been designated as the Central Nodal Agency: 1. Status Note on Interest Subsidy Scheme for Housing the Urban Poor (ISHUP) The Government of India approved the Interest Subsidy Scheme for Housing the Urban Poor (ISHUP) in December, 2008. Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoH& UPA) finalised the operative guidelines for implementation of the Scheme and it became operative since then. The Scheme is expected to leverage flow of institutional finance for the EWS and LIG segment households and also intends to create an additional housing stock of 3.10 lakh houses for these segments. The Scheme will terminate in the year 2012. The loan repayment periods will be permissible generally ranging from 15-20 years. The subsidy is 5 per cent per annum for EWS and LIG segments, admissible for a maximum loan amount of Rs.1 lakh over the full period of the loan. The Scheme is being implemented through Public Sector Banks and select Housing Finance Companies. NHB as a Central Nodal Agency under the Scheme has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 32 Primary Lending Institutions (PLIs) consisting of nineteen (19) Public Sector Banks, five (5) Regional Rural Banks, two(2) private sector banks and six (6) Housing Finance Companies. Among the Banks, NHB has executed Memorandum of Agreement with State Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, UCO Bank, Corporation Bank, Indian Bank, Punjab & Sind bank, Syndicate Bank, Punjab National Bank, Central Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Allahabad Bank, State Bank of Hyderabad, Andhra Bank, Canara Bank, United Bank of India, State Bank of Mysore, Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank, Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank, Pragathi Gramin Bank, Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank, Cauvery Kalpatharu Grameena Bank, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank and amongst the Housing Finance Companies with Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd.( HDFC Ltd), Housing & Urban Development Corporation Ltd.(HUDCO), Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd., LIC Housing Finance Ltd., M/s Can Fin Homes Ltd. and DHFL Vysya Housing Finance Ltd.

Status Note on the Scheme of 1% Interest Subvention on Housing Loans In order to stimulate housing demand in the country, especially in middle and lower income segments of population, the Union Finance Minister, during discussion on Budget Proposals for 2009-10, had announced a Scheme of 1% Interest Subvention on Housing Loan up to 10 lakhs. Pursuant to the above mentioned announcement, the Government of India has approved a Scheme of Interest Subvention on Housing Loan up to 10 lakhs, provided the cost of the unit does not exceed 20 lakhs. The objective of the Scheme is to provide Interest Subsidy on Housing Loans as a measure to improve affordability of housing to eligible borrowers. In the Budget Speech for the year 2010-11, the Hon ble Finance Minister announced extension of the Scheme till March 31 st, 2011. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Housing Bank (NHB) are the Nodal Agencies for implementation & disbursement of subsidy under the Scheme, for Schedule Commercial Banks (SCBs) and Housing Finance Companies (HFCs), respectively. Total 24 HFCs are participating in the Scheme for which NHB is nodal agency. The necessary Guidelines have been issued by both the Nodal Agencies. In the Budget Speech for the year 2011-12, the Hon ble Finance Minister announced extension of the Scheme till March 31 st, 2012. For Financial Year 2011-12 interest subvention of 1% will be available for housing loans upto 15 lakh, provided the cost of house does not exceed 25 lakh.
