Stephen also focuses on the following services: fraud risk management and related controls, fraud and misconduct investigations, anti-money laundering compliance services, anti-bribery and corruption services, dispute advisory and litigation support services, and Forensic Technology and ediscovery. Stephen started his career with KPMG in New York over 24 years ago. Stephen has over 20 years of experience providing auditing, accounting, investigative, dispute resolution, arbitration, expert testimony and financial advisory services to clients in a number of industries including financial services, information and high tech industry, consumer markets, industrial and energy companies, telecommunications and quasi-governmental sector. Since the implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009, Stephen has led numerous engagements involving banks, brokers, asset managers and casinos providing both advice on implementation of the Act, and review of risk assessments and compliance programs required by the New Zealand AML regime. Stephen has led numerous investigations around financial reporting fraud including all aspects of electronic data recovery and evidence management, data analytics, evaluation of controls and policies and procedures in place and respective gaps, preparation for and conducting interviews of witnesses, disclosure and reporting of findings to the Board of Directors, Audit Committees, external auditors, and regulators. GARETH PINDRED T: +64 9 363 3633 garethpindred@kpmg.co.nz DIRECTOR Gareth is a senior member of KPMG s Forensic team and specialises in regulatory matters in particular compliance with AML/CFT obligations. Gareth worked for seven years in the New Zealand Police where he had responsibility for investigating fraud and related offences. He joined KPMG in 2006 working in London until early 2013 when he joined the New Zealand practice. He has managed engagements to review and develop compliance as well as remediation and defence work following regulatory enforcement action. A synopsis of this work includes: Assisted a number of New Zealand reporting entities develop and maintain their AML/CFT programme, including leading audits at the direction of sector supervisors. Managed the delivery of two AML/CFT due diligence remediation engagements for the wealth and retail divisions of separate UK banks. This involved work in UK, Spain and offshore jurisdictions. Assisted a UK bank develop their AML/CFT policies and tools including risk model, on-boarding and periodic review forms. Assisted a UK bank identify, complete EDD and approve highrisk customers including politically exposed persons as a result of enforcement action. Gareth s experience in responding to the regulators gives him insight into their expectations ensuring he develops a compliant programme while understanding the business challenges they present. T: +64 9 363 3620 tgoodrick@kpmg.co.nz SENIOR MANAGER TIM GOODRICK Tim is a specialist in financial crime and regulatory compliance, in particular, assisting clients comply with their AML/CFT obligations. Tim has extensive public sector experience having worked with regulatory bodies at the highest level, and has an indepth understanding of the issues facing reporting entities from working closely with the private sector to develop AML/CFT policy. From 2012, Tim worked at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) where he was primarily involved with: Developing international policy and managing consultation with countries and industry; Undertaking country assessments and engaging with international organisations to provide AML/CFT expertise (e.g. United Nations, G20, OECD and the Basel Committee); and Leading the development of the FATF guidance on new payment products and services and leading the project for FATF s policy on beneficial ownership of corporate vehicles. Prior to joining the FATF, Tim was the Director of Financial Crime at the Australian Attorney-General s Department, where he led the development and implementation of Australia s policy and legislative regime for financial crime. Tim also worked as a compliance officer and senior policy officer for AUSTRAC (the Australian AML/CFT regulator). Since joining KPMG, Tim has worked on AML/CFT remediation and due diligence projects, audits and advisory engagements for banks, brokers, trust and company service providers, fund managers and lending institutions. T: +64 367 5800 samanthacopeland@kpmg.co.nz SAMANTHA COPELAND MANAGER Samantha is a specialist in regulatory compliance and risk management who has extensive experience in the development and implementation of compliance solutions. With strong communication and analytical skills, Samantha is able to work with key stakeholders to offer pragmatic solutions to regulatory change. Samantha has over 7 years experience in various roles within the financial services sectors in both New Zealand and Australia which has involved the implementation of AML/CFT Programmes across different organizational structures. Prior to joining KPMG in January 2016, Samantha was the designated AML/CFT Compliance Officer and responsible for the design and implementation of the AML/CFT Programme of a leading NZX broking firm. Responsbilities included: Design, implementation and monitoring of risk assessment and AML Programme. Training and education of the Board, Senior Managers and staff. Advising and assisting the client facing team in undertaking customer due diligence of complex and high risk entities. Samantha has first-hand experience of understanding the complexities that AML/CFT legislation can bring and her background gives her a strong ability to offer solutions to organisations where compliance and commercial interests may not align. She has a broad knowledge of a range of financial products and structures including equities, derivatives, fund management and emissions trading.
