This Resolution considers a system of environmental education at all levels of the country s education system. Development of curricula and programs, establishment of training and methodology centers and drafting relevant methodologies will allow inclusion of climate issues in the education system. The policy rest within the MoH and Tonga Water Board for eeffective, efficient, and sustainable water supply services in Tonga: NUDSP is looking at increase the water The Ministry of Education and Training (MET) National Development Strategy sets tasks for inclusion of climate change subject in the curricula of the Primary educational establishments and secondary schools. Partially, the responsibility of assessing linkages between climate resilience lies with The Ministry of Education and Training is responsible for the development and implementation of policies at all levels of education including on climate policies for the sector. It is also important that, a government agency is in charge of schools, which is the starting point for climate change awareness. The Ministry oversees the work of the Academy of Education. It also has the Institute for Development, Publication and Dissemination of Textbooks, and its own publishing house for specialized magazines and periodical publications. Implementation of Nuku'alofa Urban Development Sector Project and the Climate Resilience Sector Project to ensure climate change resilience in The Government's and the MET and other departments developed projects and programs to increase climate change awareness. Local NGOs are implementing projects on raising awareness in the field of climate change and adaptation. Several pilot studies were conducted to identify reserves and water management. However, due to the lack of financial resources, this work is not carried out on a regular basis. The Government Planning process covers projects financed by international organizations in cooperation with the Climate Change, Ministry of Health, and the local NGOs. Changes are introduced in the projects under implementation to reflect issues of improving climate conditions and reducing climatic risks (microclimate, sanitation). 1. More commitment by sector leads would improve and strengthen coorindation and ensure effective mainstreaming of CC and DRM. 2 Key climate change expertise for sectors is desirable. Government sees sustainability through building existing capacities in CC whehter it be sector coordinators or planning, corporate service personnel in key sector agencies. There is opportunity through the PPCR to strenthen this. 2. The numbers of personnel in government structures and NGOs, participating in trainings and seminars on climate change, in the country and abroad, increased more than two times.. The Committee on Protection of Environment under the Government is appointed as the authorized agency for the Green Climate Fund, and a coordination mechanism was established. What have been the key challenges and what opportunities for improvement do you see? 4. Long term sustainability is critical; therefore ensuring focus on capacity building and skills development across all sectors as a priority. 1. Lack of required incentives and legislative policies related to the climate change issues and resilience, both at the central government and key ministries level, hinders climate change and resilience based planning at the level of key sectors.
