It s a partly compulsory plan ntroduced by the Government and the Government provdes tax benefts as a result. Super s a way to save money for when you retre and stop earnng a salary. Throughout your workng lfe, you and your employer make contrbutons to ths account. Generally, your employer puts an amount equal to 9.5 of your salary nto your account. Ths s called your Superannuaton Guarantee. You can also make addtonal contrbutons from your own before or after tax pay and, dependng on your salary, the Government may make co-contrbutons. START BY CHOOSING THE SUPER THAT S RIGHT FOR YOU Generally, you have the rght to choose your super, although your employer may make recommendatons. If you don t make a choce, your employer wll choose one for you. DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS Savng for your retrement s mportant, and there are many dfferent ways contrbutons can be made to your account, for example: Employer contrbutons Government co-contrbutons Personal contrbutons Salary sacrfce contrbutons Spouse contrbutons All of these have rules that lmt the amount that you can contrbute each year and assocated tax mplcatons. For more nformaton about the rules that govern all super funds, vst www.ato.gov.au/ndvduals YOUR SAVINGS ARE MEANT FOR RETIREMENT ONLY Super s all about retrement so, generally, you can t wthdraw your super untl you retre or reach preservaton age. EXAMPLE OF ANNUAL FEES AND COSTS FOR MYWASUPER Ths table gves an example of how the fees and costs for the MyWASuper opton can affect your superannuaton nvestment over a one year perod. You should use ths table to compare ths superannuaton product wth other superannuaton products. Example - MyWASuper (Default opton) BALANCE of $50,000 Investment fees 0.54 For every $50,000 you have n the superannuaton product you wll be charged $270 each year. PLUS Admnstraton fees PLUS ndrect costs for the superannuaton product EQUALS Cost of product $72.80 pa ($1.40 per week) plus 0.08 pa of your account balance And, you wll be charged $72.80 n admnstraton fees regardless of your balance plus $40. 0.34 pa And, ndrect costs of $170 each year wll be deducted from your nvestment. Go to www.wasuper.com.au/pds/ membergude. The materal relatng to Fees and Costs may change between the tme when you read ths Statement and the day when you acqure the product. 7) How super s taxed Generally, your super wll be taxed n three ways: CONTRIBUTIONS Concessonal contrbutons are sometmes called before-tax contrbutons because the contrbutor can usually clam an ncome tax deducton. They nclude: compulsory super guarantee contrbutons made by your employer salary sacrfce contrbutons any personal contrbutons for whch you notfy us of your ntenton to clam as an ncome tax deducton. Concessonal contrbutons are taxed at 15 n the super fund. There are lmts on how much you can contrbute and f you exceed these lmts you may pay extra tax. If you exceed your concessonal contrbutons cap the excess contrbutons are ncluded n your taxable ncome. You wll receve a non-refundable tax offset equal to the 15 tax pad by your fund on ths amount. Further, an nterest charge may also be payable to recognse that tax on excess contrbutons s collected later than normal ncome tax. Non-concessonal contrbutons are generally after-tax contrbutons. They nclude personal contrbutons you make from your after-tax pay. They aren t usually taxed f you do not exceed your contrbutons cap. You are able to wthdraw superannuaton contrbutons that are n excess of the non-concessonal cap plus 85 of the assocated earnngs for those contrbutons. The assocated earnngs wll be taxed at your margnal tax rate. If you do not elect to release these excess amounts from superannuaton, a tax of 47 wll apply to the amount that exceeds your non-concessonal contrbutons cap. From 1 July 2017, ndvduals wth ncome greater than $250,000 wll have all concessonal contrbutons taxed at 30. The defnton of ncome for the purpose of ths measure wll nclude taxable ncome, concessonal superannuaton contrbutons, adjusted frnge benefts, total net nvestment loss, target foregn ncome, tax-free government pensons and benefts, less chld support. If ths s lkely to affect you, we suggest you seek advce from one of our Fnancal Planners. See www.ato.gov.au for detals. INVESTMENT EARNINGS Investment earnngs are taxed at a maxmum of 15. The tax s deducted before earnngs are declared, so credtng rates are shown after tax. WITHDRAWALS Wthdrawals from your account before you turn 60 may be taxed. After you turn 60, generally, no tax wll apply.! WARNING! WARNING PROVIDING YOUR TFN No one lkes payng more tax than they have to, so please make sure we have your Tax Fle Number (TFN). If we don t have your TFN the ATO wll make us deduct 47 on all your concessonal contrbutons and we won t be able to accept any non-concessonal contrbutons from you. Provdng your TFN s optonal, but t could save you a lot of money. If you decde to gve us your TFN, we ll only use t for lawful purposes such as trackng down any lost super for you, calculatng any tax payable on contrbutons or payments, reportng to the ATO, co-contrbuton matchng, provdng t to another super fund or Retrement Savngs Account provder f you ve rolled your super out.
