Council Rock North Orchestra Iceland 2018! Akureyri & Reykjavik North Orchestra Performance Tour March 21-27, 2018 The members and families of the Council Rock North Orchestra will have the opportunity to visit Iceland, the Land of Ice and Fire, and home of the northernmost capital of the world, Reykjavik. The country is the meeting place of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge priming it for mountains, volcanos, hot springs, geysers, ancient lava flows, canyons, waterfalls, and more! Travelers will marvel at these natural wonders, soak in the Blue Lagoon geothermal pool, and go whale watching on the Eyjafjorour fjord.
Students will have the opportunity to experience the music scene of Iceland; possibly touring the Harpa Concert Hall, home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, work with professional musicians and collegiate music students at the Academy of the Arts, and combine their music making with local school and community music groups. The Icelandic music folks are excited to share their traditions with us, as we share our music with them! The first two nights will be spend in Akureyri, the second largest city and considered the capital of Northern Iceland. We then travel by coach to the nation s capital, Reykjavik for the remaining three nights of our journey. The Orchestra will have two amazing Concert Performances in Akureyri and Reykjavik. All repertoire and confirmation of performance venues will be released at a later date. Chaperone duties will be provided by the Council Rock North Music Department staff, an administrator, and a registered school nurse. The tour package is being provided by KIconcerts. Cost: Approximately $3,199 per student The price could fluctuate up or down based on the following factors: The number of students and family members attending (the higher the number, the lower the cost), transport of equipment (airline surcharge), and airport taxes and fuel surcharges these are not under our control. We have done our best to anticipate all surcharges 13 months away from the trip. The trip includes: Round Trip Airfare 2 Nights Hotel Accommodations with double occupancy in Akureyri 3 Nights Hotel Accommodations with double occupancy in Rekjavik Breakfast and Dinner daily Deluxe Private Motorcoach transportation in U.S. and Iceland Sightseeing, Local Tour Guides, and Attractions Fees (except the last day) Public Performance Arrangements and all advertising in Iceland All Group Tips Core Travel Insurance
Parents and Siblings of Orchestra members are invited to travel with us. Their cost will be approximately $3,199 for double occupancy or $3,724 for single occupancy. Benchmark Payment Dates: Checks payable to CRNOPA February 21, 2017 $300 April 25, 2017 $600 June 20, 2017 $600 August 22, 2017 $600 October 24, 2017 $600 January 23, 2018 Final Payment (approximately $500) A February Commitment is important to our planning for airline tickets and other necessary reservations. The first payment of $300 and Contract will be due on February 21 st, 2017. Subsequent payments will be due according to the schedule outlined above. Checks are made payable to CRNOPA and mailed to the address listed on the contract. If parents are unable to mail a payment on time please contact the Parent Board. Fundraising activities will be provided during the remainder of this school year and next fall. Questions about the trip can be answered at future Orchestra Parent Meetings if the parents would like to set up a General Meeting later this year. All travelers will require a U.S. Passport to attend the trip. A color copy of the passport will be due to Mr. Crooke by November 1st, 2017. By entering into this contract, you agree to the following conditions: 1. Estimated payments totaling $3,199 (based on air taxes and fuel arrangements as of (01/23/2017) will be made on or before the dates below. a. Air taxes and fuel supplements are subject to change. b. Earned fundraising credits will be applied per the attached payment/fundraising credit schedule. c. Checks made payable to CRNOPA are to be mailed to the CRNOPA post office box listed at the bottom of this contract. d. Price is based on double occupancy. Those wanting a single room must add the Single Room Supplement of $524. 2. Students will maintain behavior consistent with Council Rock High School North rules and regulations. 3. All students & traveling family must attend a MANDATORY pre-trip meeting with a parent. 4. Parents participating on the trip with their child should understand that this is a student-centered trip. They should understand in advance that all decisions made prior to and during the trip reflect the students best interests first. 5. All performers must commit to substantial music preparation for the performances of the trip.
